Went to a screening of Vertigo last night. I saw it years ago and liked it, but I was really ready to embrace it this time.

Holy fuck, that movie is a sssslllllogggg. Herrman’s score is amazing and it has some very well-composed shots, but I was so goddamn bored. Hitchcock is much better when he’s being light/funny.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

North by Northwest blows this movie out of the water.

Meh not a big fan of that one either. I think The Trouble with Harry is probably his best.

Agreed.
Rearwindow is a close second, for me. Such a great film.

Watched The Good, the Bad and the Ugly this weekend for the first time. Wow that's a long movie. I love the look of the film, how crisp and real the entire thing feels. I did not like the sound editing. I read up on it and I get it, but I didn't like it. Loved the whole rest of it though.

I wasn't much of a Western (or Eastwood, for that matter) fan growing up so I hadn't seen it before. The only movie of his I've watched previously was Firefox because of the bitchin' plane. Never was a fan of the Dirty Harry films.

I need to revisit GBU. It’s one of my favorite movies but it’s been a long time.

3:10 To Yuma

Which one? I saw the remake and it was alright. Good anti-hero turn at the end, I always like when that happens in movies.

I was thinking the other day...I didn't watch a lot of movies with my family. Maybe it was because A) we lived in the boonies and B) VCRs were a fairly new invention. Hell, I remember having to rent the player at the same time as the movie. I love watching movies with my son, to the point where I'm pretty sure he's going to be messed up from the choices at some point. :haha: Nothing scary though. Hell, he closed his eyes during the part of Ready Player One with The Shining and that was pretty tame.

It's on my to-watch list, but then so are about 200 other movies.
