The third one hit me hard.
I was just recently separated and we saw with my ex the first two movies...my separation got really ugly. Really fucked up. And that fight in the third one...kinda mirrored whatever happened with her. It was pretty amazing.
The fight is so well written, so real, so human....it moved me.
Great movie.

When I saw the first one I hadn't been in a relationship in a long time and really hadn't had any substantial relationships at all. I'm sure I can enjoy these movies so much more now that I've been married for 82 years.
The second one is my favorite one. It's also the most technically impressive -- while there are certainly some edits, it's the most "single moment/tracking shot" of the three, in that it basically follows them for 90 minutes uninterrupted.
I'll definitely have to watch it. I think the titles do the epic trilogy a disservice considering nobody can remember what they are and which is which.

Yes. Very realistic. I teared up. It's amazing how things so specific can be so universal. I think that's the point of these movies.

Yeah, and at the same time it makes sense for them to be at that point.
I guess the three movies kinda mirrored my relationship around that time and thats why they felt almost personal to me.

Hmm...Not trying to pry about your breakup, but my memory is that their fight isn't particularly groundbreaking; rather, it's downright familiar in how they both seem sort of bored by their relationship (that "kissy kissy sucky sucky" line stuck in my memory more than anything).
Thats why i loved it. Thats my point. Felt completely real in terms of a 10 years old relationship with someone.

On a side note, do we feel Ethan Hawke gets the credit he deserves? He can be very good. Did you see him as Chet Baker in Born to Be Blue?

That's not something I've heard before. I really appreciate him but wouldn't call him one of my favorites.

He did such a marvelous job in Sinister, its impossible not to get involved with his character.
Dying to see his new movie with Paul Schraeder.

The Purge series is amazing.
I dont really get the Affleck comparison. Both of them have lots of movies but Ben hasnt been on a lot of classics nor made a movie a classic because of his performance.
I prefer him as a director.

That second Purge movie is terrible. I never saw the first
