There's some righty isolationist (Buchananite?) arguments about NATO expansion making the Russian invasion inevitable, and sure, I can understand their point of view.

That point of view suggests the Russians have a Monroe Doctrine esque claim on Eastern Europe, but those dumb dumbs gave it all up in '91. It's far too late to claw it back and the knock on targets are all in NATO.

Unless you accept a Buchananite (or Chomsky I suppose) worldview, Bush was right to try to rapidly enroll Georgia and Ukraine into NATO, and Germany and France were wrong to block their ascension. Deterrence was limited without that addition, and we are now sending vast sums of munitions and equipment regardless.

My analysis must be wrong here because it's hard to figure out how Neocons could have gotten anything correct. They accidentally got Russia more correct than most?

We did laugh at Romney when he said, in 2012, that Russia was our biggest threat.
