Wow! What a perfect album...for this time. Almost like it was meant to be listened to in quarantine. 3 listens in and I love it. Thanks to the folks who sent me this link. This album is just what the doctor ordered!!
It's got depth, atmosphere, and a mood. These songs go to unexpected places. As Individual songs outside the walls of this record, it's difficult to compare these against the rest of their body of work. These songs may not end up on the greatest hits, but as an album these songs work. This feels damn close to a concept album, and a perfect soundtrack to the current mood of fear, isolation, quarantine, and uncertainty. Standout tracks for me are:

Quick Escape
Comes then Goes
DOTC
Buckle Up
Alright
Who Ever Said.

Blown away that a band 30 years deep into their career could still surprise me and move me like this.
I love this band, and I love this album. Can't wait until the quarantine is over, and we're all clear to see these songs played live. Good times are ahead. See you out there!!

even if i end up hating all these tracks (other than dance which couldn’t possibly happen) i respect the hell out of em for giving it a red hot go this time around. this is gonna take some digesting, which is a great sign.

Comes then Goes is the biggest surprise for me. When I heard 6 minute Ed song that's basically just him, I got concerned, but I love it. Too bad Retrograde follows it...

Who Ever Said is a grower. There's some really cool stuff going on in the 2nd half. Gets better every time.

Second listening. Two negative thoughts:

1. Theyre less "trying differents influences" and more "try being differents bands".
2. The second half is boring.

These are my thoughts now.
This might pass. This might last. This may grow

If it works for you great.

It and it’s pal are not only poorly placed, they’re out of step with the entire album.

This is gonna need a lot more listens, to be sure, but after one listen through before I head off to bed, I'm surprised and thrilled that so much of this is as good as it is. An 11th album by a 30-year-old band that have been on a downward slide for the second half of their career, and it somehow feels like it might fit in with their peak era.

There's some clunky shit on here, make no mistake, but how can Pearl Jam in 2020 make songs like "DotC," "Buckle Up," "Alright," and "Quick Escape"? And while those are the highlights on my first listen through, there are a bunch of good songs, production choices, and noteworthy performances throughout. In fact, the only songs I found myself waiting for the end were literally at the end; "Retrograde" and "River Cross."

I look forward to the future with this album.

Team Who Ever Said. When it slows down and Ed and Matt work off each other, it's great.

I don't think I've ever heard acoustic guitars sound as good as the ones on Comes Then Goes. If I close my eyes, it sounds like they're in the room with me.

Highlights for me are:

DotC
Quick Escape
Alright
Seven O'Clock
Buckle Up
River Cross

But I also really like:
Who Ever Said
Never Destination
Comes Then Goes
and outro to Retrograde

SBWM is still kinda just OK

Take the Long Way isn't really hitting the spot for me

I am loving this song and I agree the guitars have a deep resonant sound that help propel an otherwise standard acoustic song...

Yeah, exactly halfway through it finds another level.

Not that it matters (IT STILL MATTERS TO ME) but MY WIFE who has seen the band more than 20 times but is not a fanatic by any means says:
BUCKLE UP
COMES THEN GOES
RIVER CROSS

If this was their final album as a band, I'd be perfectly satisfied with this 30-year trip. I'm sure opinions will vary, but I've been pretty spot on as far as my initial impressions go with PJ albums, and this is quite an accomplishment for this band. This is so far beyond any expectations I have had in a long time, and I can't wait to dig in and get to know this album like the rest.
