I'm half way through...
This is a very interesting album! I will be hooked on it after second listen I predict.
The last 2 minutes of Seven O'Clock is breathtaking.

They should drop this on all streaming platforms now. It's leaked. Many people won't be able to go to the store to buy a physical copy in a week's time.

i dont think they've ever featured keys that much. second appearance of a sitar i think. i'm only on my second listen, but they seem like they are open to trying new things on this. i already like it more than backspacer.
What's the instrument at the front of Alright?
I think that’s Jeff on the kalimba

Starting my second listen right now, while also working. Could have done so a little earlier, but decided to wait. Feels really good putting on a solid new Pearl Jam album.

I very much liked the entire album after the first listen. I’ll go more in-depth on it after a couple more over the weekend.

the last two songs just hit me in a very powerful way I wasn’t expecting, or in a way that had only been abstract so far

I can understand the Yield and Riot Act comparisons but this really is its own animal. It’s the most lush sounding thing they’ve ever done production-wise, almost Phil Spector/wall of sound at times but there’s no shortage of heavy stomping rockers either. I actually think the Ed “spritzy” songs work as a nice counter balance to some of it just maybe wouldn’t have put those both right up at the front.

It sounds really, really good. We can argue about Ed all day - he has hits and misses - but the band sound FANTASTIC.

Quick Escape chorus has some similarities to All Messed Up by Three Fish. Love it

My favorite thing about my first listen was that this did NOT feel like PJ by numbers at all.

i love that one of the major themes of this album is simply to try be better than you are, and the belief that it is possible
