Getaway is sooo much better than SW.
This take mesmerizes me. Getaway sounds tepid, lifeless, and forced. Whatever you think of the songwriting in this song, the band at least sounds like THEY think they’re killing it.

Getaway is redeemed, just barely, because of Jeff.
He plays the vocal melody? Also, what?
May be the other way around.

SBWF vs. Once: discuss.
Seriously?

Exactly. Every once in a while they write one good happy/fun pop-punk song.

Getaway is that song.

Nice bassline, nice melodies and nice ending with a great Mike solo.

And FWIW: I don't think SW is a bad song (2 or 2.5 over 5 for me), I just don't like PJ when they take this route, that's all. It doesn't excite me, doesn's surprise me, doesn't make me feel anything. At least, with DotC they tried something different, and I love'em when they do that. You are or Unemployable are two examples of PJ excelling by writing songs out of their comfort zone.
that's fair

I'm pretty confident we'll get a few other interesting experiments

Well, technically yes, but on his bass.

I woke up at about 330 this morning, looked at my phone to see what time it was, and saw I had a text from one of them. I didn't read it, but now whenever I see any of their names, I sing to myself "Superblood Wolfmoon, took her away too soon".

Damn you all to hell.
Wolves are active at night.
now I have this song stuck in my head.

This is the best version:

this fucking rules.

I am, too.

I'm kind of dissapointed because I thought SW was gonna be a standout and I was gonna be able to show it to all of these 'they haven't written a great song since Yield' ex-fans and tell'em: there you go, they still got it.

Maybe I will be able to show'em that with Who ever said? I hope so.

Much of TEN's success comes from the Ed's vocal talent. Imagine a random singer performing Even Flow, Once, or Why Go? He elavated good songs to great heights.

I'm fainting here.

Even Flow would be epic even with Bob Dylan singing it. That song is otherworldly.

I agree with this. I like PJ when Ed sounds good. I can't stand him on new stuff unless it's chillll I suppose.. just sounds like he's trying too hard to RAWK and it isn't working for me

Getaway is my favorite song of theirs since Avocado. It's a fun rocker with a great sounding bassline and a fun hook that isn't completely silly.

Few Pearl Jam songs sound more to me like a group of people playing without joy

One thing that bothers me about this one is Ed's insistence of cramming words into the music. Changing it to "she was taken too soon" or "I lost her too soon" in the chorus would make it flow and sound so much smoother while maintaining the intent.

Neither of those sound better to me. Also, they’re the same amount of words...

I think saying “took her way too soon” instead of “away too soon” may be slightly better though.

Instead of saying Superblood Wolfmoon, I hope he just goes SBWM live.
