Eddie Vedder - Earthling

When a band is but a fraction of Pearl Jam, but they aren't zero Pearl Jam.

Maybe we will all listen to this and say Stone was the problem

Happy to keep playing the knee-jerk "adjusting my expectations" game.

After hearing some of the Beacon recording, I'm starting to think that The Haves might be by far the worst song on Earthling. I'd been figuring it would probably be "the worst," but that it would sort of be clustered with other songs that are quite bad in their own right.

But if it can stand alone at the bottom, with a glut of meh tracks and a few high points above it, then this thing might exceed expectations by a good margin.

I remember a month or so ago people were saying there would only be 1 good song on this.

I already like a good 5-6 songs from what we have heard.

Ms Harmless wrote:"Power of Right" - Ed, is that some Vitalogy swagger? I'm actually amazed songs like this are still coming from this guy; hopefully I don't hate it after I read the lyrics (I just don't need another "music is so awesome baby yeah yeah yeah ride the super duper wave on the shoreline baby")
I’m pretty sure those were the first draft lyrics of big wave.

I’m reading all these descriptions and feeling much more optimistic as I don’t listen since I want a relatively clean first listen (I heard the singles). I am sure once I hit play that I will tune all this out and give it a solid listen without preconceived notes, but this is at least entertaining.

GOT IT! the "Power of Right" riff sounds like Blur's "Swamp Song" in a different key

I've had the chorus to Invincible stuck in my head all weekend. What an earworm.

Im sure this album will be fine. RM is going to react as always, there will be a group of people actually talking bout the music and then another number saying Vs was better or whatever.

I think releasing Long Way and The Haves first was a bad idea

Doing The Haves was a bad idea, then releasing it commercially was a huge test for everyone.
