He knows. He also knew HR wouldn’t like it. But sometimes you just gotta do what’s best for the center and let HR sort it out later.
At any company I’ve worked for, minus the last, you’d be in trouble. What’s also best for the center is avoiding lawsuits. And low turnover

Rightfully so.
Why? Let’s see if your answer jibes with theirs.
The main across the board reason is to ensure there are no legal considerations or keep the company from being liable in possible discriminatory practices. There can be industry, company, state/federal law requirements (ie timing of last paycheck) involved as well.

So what do you do - tell the employee they’re gone then tell HR? Hopefully immediately…
Yep. That’s exactly what I did. As for last paycheck, this will be her only paycheck from us.
I was just saying that as a potential reason why employers may require advance notification. Either way, the way your company functions is not advisable

You can, but you’ll be fired on the spot.

a reminder, folks, that HR's priority is always to protect the company, not its employees, as HRs like to make their employees believe.

A wrongful termination situation would be protecting the employee as well, holmes

Wrongful termination? The girl, quite literally, only showed up for the first of 6 shifts. Nothing wrongful about this termination.

wease I don’t know why you don’t understand I’m not speaking directly to this isolated, individual situation.

Also to note, something not many managers realize is an employee can sue them personally.

Why did you get so rageful that you just needed to fire that person right then and there, proper procedure be damned? Now you're on the hook for whatever happens down the line. Control your emotions, wease

I’m in total control. No rage. Just fixed the issue before it got worse. I was totally within my jurisdiction to terminate her and I wasn’t waiting until a day HR was in office to do it. That would’ve been to the detriment to the center.

The issue is not whether or not she should be fired. The issue is why wease felt the need to fire this person against procedure, without going to HR first.

And I'll tell you why.

It's because wease wants to feel like a big man.

He doesn't want to get permission, he wants to feel like he is in charge. Wease doesn't want to ask permission to fire a woman. That's his right as a big man. Middle management with an ego, very dangerous. For his employees and for his employer.

Check yourself, wease!
