1970s New York seems so long ago.
I love Mean Streets. It's my second favorite Scorsese movie behind Taxi Driver. The opening title sequence is amazing. I love the confessional narration and the use of religious imagery. The cinematography is dark and gritty, which adds to the confessional mood. Also, Scorsese's use of music in this is masterful. Both Keitel and De Niro are outstanding and I love the little sprinkles of social commentary.

Director Derek Cianfrance (Place Beyond Pines, Blue Valentine) to direct a film about the founding of ESPN.
Hmm...

Fix, the Ministry film. Surprisingly captivating. Al Jorg is a crazy asshole, though, and not in a good way. 7/10
Marley. I hadn't really read much about Bob Marley's life or career so this was all fresh to me. Really well put together and the interviews are top notch. 7.5/10
Lovelace. Tits. Beautiful tits. Then sadness. Still, not a bad yarn. 7/10
The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Wat. Laughably unrealistic characters and they didn't even know Bowie's "Heroes" when they heard it on the radio. 6/10

Passion Play...what a terrible movie. I'm gonna have nightmares now of a winged Megan Fox flying with Mickey Rourke after me.

A Prophet-Great movie. I liked Rust & Bone too so I'll have to check out The Beat My Heart Skipped next.

Yeah, really good. Most, if not all of the actors are unknown but it still has a certain polish to it.

It is between Prisoners, Gravity, and the Thor driving a race car one for us tonight. I really don't want to see Gravity, and my wife loves Thor so..

All three are on my list. I'm seeing Prisoners tonight.
But doesnt Gravity come out next week?
I'm sure your wife will swoon over Mr. Thor driving a car without a shirt on.

So I saw this:
- Spoiler: show
- The acting is all around superb. Whatever Jake Gyllenhaal did to make his character more interesting, it worked.
But a couple plot holes. Hugh Jackman is stuck in the hole, right? And the old lady drove his truck into the back woods or whatever? Wouldn't the cops while searching the area already find the damn truck? I mean, they're searching for Hugh, and they're at the suspect's house, I'd think they'd know Hugh is there somewhere! And there was something else too but I'm too drunk to remember.
I'll give the movie a B-. The more I try to write scripts myslef, the more I'm critical of plot points. And this script won a screenplay contest a couple years ago. Good story, great acting, but don't try to pull the wool over my eyes.

Drinking Buddies. I really liked this thing. Olivia Wilde is lights out. Jake Johnson really pulls off a tricky balancing act. Smart. Funny. Moving. Really lovely movie.

Watched this is 40 on hbo tonight. Don't understand the poor reviews. I quite liked it. Felt very true to me as a nearing 40 yr old with two kids.
