I keep forgetting Del Toro is in this. I guess I do have a reason to see it.

You'll still hate it and probably never watch any of his films again though
Tbh I forgot he was in it too.

I'm a little concerned about him taking me out of the film but really really wish Laura dern wasn't in it. Star Wars should steer clear of known actors I think.

You mean like Alec Guinness, Harrison Ford, Ewen McGregor and Oscar Isaac?

Not at all. Laura Dern's most recognizable role was the 3rd biggest (4th if you count the trex) star in a movie 25 years ago and a poorly rated HBO show. Sure people know who she is, but she is hardly a huge star. Its not like they said HEY WE NEED JLAW FOR STAR POWER. Shes a good actress. Overlooking her if they felt she fit the role just because people might recognize her is stupi.

Samuel Jackson took me out of it. and lets be honest, if you knew who alex guiness and harrison ford were when you first saw Star Wars, then you are a nerd or full of piss. Also, oscar isaac was still reasonably unknown prior to TFA.
i like star wars

Sam Jackson I agree being stunt casting (and portman to a lesser extent) That was a OMG STAR POWER casting. I get him taking you out of it.
I didnt know who they were, but I also was 5. They were just as known to most adults then as Laura Dern is to people now. Probably more so. Oscar Isaac at the time of release was definitely considered a known up and comer at least.

I think Sam jackson is the only person who could take me out of such a film. i dont think Laura Dern or Benecio could do that for me. They are all great actors. Sam jackson needs the right part and a jedi is not the part for him.

Didn't Sam Jackson ask to be in the movie?

He's clearly playing the titular Space Bear.

Yes.
Alec was certainly a known actor (if sort of forgotten by that point). Harrison had a major role in one fucking movie before Star Wars. But the prequels were loaded with "stars" and recognizable faces: Jackson, McGreggor, Portman, Neeson. So many people in those three movies were established actors if not major stars. And Oscar Isaac may have only been on the rise at the time TFA was cast but he was far more well known and seen than Harrison Ford had been at the time of Star Wars.
Benicio Del Torro being in this movie will only make it better. Ditto Laura Dern. I'm so fucking excited!

Ok well maybe I'm saying it wrong. But the Rock campaigning Disney to be in one and cate Blanchett saying she wants to be in one. That kinda thing is what I'm on about. I just don't think that level of Hollywood suits Star Wars.
By the way McGregor really isn't a big entity Hollywood wise. Whereas Sam Jackson is. He didn't fit in the prequels whatsoever.

Samuel L Jackson was distracting in star wars. Then again, he hasn't been distracting at all as Nick Fury (a better role for him). And Ewan McGregor, Liam Nieson, etc. were fine in their roles (prequel fine, anyway). If you do a good job in the part it won't matter. None of these guys are like Keanu Reeves or Tom Cruise or Jack Nicholson where most characters they play are simply them playing themselves (I tend to quite enjoy their movies, btw--this is not a criticism), and the likelihood of that kind of character having a place in a star wars film is not high.

Exactly. Sam Jackson didn't work because Sam Jackson. Not because it's Star Wars.
I would have the same concern about The Rock. But I'm open to being surprised by him, if it ever happens. Cat Blanchett should ABSOLUTELY be in a Star Wars movie. Right now! Is it too late to put in her R1? And Space Bear?
