I agree with parts of that, but I almost feel like he had a narrative that he's now trying to fit this record into; I could get not liking this album, but this record really does not sound like (and is not really written like) their last few records, which seems to be what he's saying.RAG319 wrote:Good review that I share a lot of the same thoughts with:

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
Regrouped.
Excellent:
Alright
Who Ever Said
Quick Escape
Dance Of The Clairvoyants
Comes Then Goes
7 O'Clock
Very Good:
Superblood Wolfmoon
Retrograde
River Cross
Good:
Never Destination
The Long Way
Buckle Up
7 O'Clock moves up to Excellent.
Never Destination moves down to Good.
Retrograde moves up to Very Good.
River Cross moves up to Very Good.
Any song in the Excellent category could be the best on the album. If I was keeping stats, Who Ever Said has had the most spins by far.
I need to invest in some really good headphones to appreciate the details even more. I have some good in-ear Shures, but those are really for working out.

Cream of the Crop:
Alright
Buckle Up
Dance of the Clairvoyants
Quick Escape
Still Excellent:
Comes Then Goes
Take the Long Way
Never Destination
Very Good:
River Cross
Hoping it grows on me more:
Who Ever Said (love the second half)
Seven O'Clock (still not feeling those verses)
Not Bad:
Superblood Wolfmoon
Meh:
Retrograde (but the ending is an album highlight)

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
It's really hard to rank these, but here goes;
Dance of the Clairvoyants
Quick Escape
Alright
Buckle Up
Never Destination
Comes Then Goes
River Cross
Seven O'Clock
Who Ever Said
Retrograde
Superblood Wolfmoon
Take The Long Way
It's really hard to rank these right now. I feel like the last time I had this initial reaction to a PJ album was No Code, when I knew I liked it but still found it kind of beguiling and hard to grab a hold of.

Those two punk numbers are holding me back from loving this.
Just can’t warm to them at all. And so weirdly placed
I think I’m gonna swap them out with getaway and my fathers son.

EDIT: It looks to be just a mislabeled 256 version.

I know I’m sorry. Just they’ve done that so many times before and done it better.

Does this album break the record for by far the most lyrics on one of their records? I feel like Ed (and all of them) are trying to fit in a lot on each song.

It’s like you reached into my head and pulled out my thoughtsbodysnatcher wrote:To say that I had a lot riding on this album is a bit of an overstatement, but I was prepared for an extension of Lightning Bolt. I think a lot of us were. I had prepared myself for an album that was going to finally let me write the final chapter of my nostalgic autobiography and place PJ on the bookshelf that represented a large part of my life that had ended. The memories would always be great, but all things come to an end, good and bad.
But right as the door was shutting, at the 11th hour, Gigaton just completely reignited this band in my mind and has propelled them back into my life. An adult life, much different than I was then. A great chapter that’s been added to their story, and my story.

I'm kind of stumbling over them, too, just waiting on at least one of them to grow on me so it's less noticeable.dimejinky99 wrote:Those two punk numbers are holding me back from loving this.

That’s it too. It’s like they’re competing. Why put them together?? Especially when the back end Is relatively slow
