Right, but your post was in direct relation to Laura Dern. Sam Jackson? For Sure. Liam Neeson or Portman? Somewhat I can see it. But we're talking about Laura Dern in a presumably not super major role. I can not imagine it would be a distraction, and I doubt her name will appear about the fold on the poster. She's a recognizable face, but hardly a star or a "draw" at this point (and probably never really was)

Laura Dern is amazing. Her performance in Inland Empire is good, exquisite to the point of anxiety. One of the greatest performances I can remember.

But I'm also a huge fan of her work in general.

She's a good actress who can disappear into her roles. No problem here.

How about that random ass Max Von Sydow part in 7? What was the point in hiring him?

Oh yeah, because he kinda looks like Alec Guinness and Abrams must always remind us of the originals.

I would have the same concern about The Rock. But I'm open to being surprised by him, if it ever happens. Cat Blanchett should ABSOLUTELY be in a Star Wars movie. Right now! Is it too late to put in her R1? And Space Bear?

Someone said she would make a brilliant Sith Lord. I can't help but remember how WOEFULLY bad she was in that Indiana Jones film. Like horrendously bad.

Yet if she brought her A game she'd have a hard time making it different to Galadriel

I've seen her in a lot of work (film and theater) since LotR and I've had no problem forgetting Galadriel. I get that this is closer to that than something like Blue Jasmine but I think the point still stands.

She's fine in Indy 4; I'd say forgettable more than "woefully bad." It's probably the worst movie I've seen her in. Her accent is hokey. But so much of that falls on that script and Speilberg. But, yes, if that's the only thing anyone has seen her in, they probably wouldn't have much faith in her. It's her lowest point.

Kind of feel the same way as i wish i didnt watch it.

Its actually a really great theory and would be a wonderful story. Luke having to train his biggest and most fearsome enemies grand daughter and blood line. He kind of has to train her too. Now that she has been discovered and knows the potential of her power. You either train her the best you can or you let her easily slip to the dark side and destroy the galaxy again. With lukes failures at the jedi temple with Ren.....Can make for a great internal struggle with Luke.

I like the idea of the skywalker/palpatine flip. Though, i honestly can't imagine them casting this brilliant strong woman and making her evil - You know?

They won't go the reincarnation route. It's too much and how do you set that up and make it work in such a way that it doesn't look hammy?

Also agree with strat. They won't flip Rey. Not after the character becoming so loved and iconic. She might be tempted by the dark side but she cant go. Also pointed out by someone that anytime we see her being aggressive or angry, is in defence of someone else, bb8 Finn and Han. It's not an anger that's overwhelming her or eating her up inside insidiously as was the case with Anakin.

I'm not going to put money on Rey turning to the dark side. But I fully expect that she will be more challenged and fall further than Luke. I'd love to see her go full big bad. But I'm not 100% sold that they'll go that route.
