One Shania Twain tribute per record is quite enough, thank you very much.
This band has lost their compass.

I have a feeling this album is going to hit every gengre this band has ever attempted. This should've been the self- titled record.

From this moment on whoever says "but we still have those GREAT songs Infallible, Pendulum, Yellow Moon and MFS ahead" - be warned that you may be shooting yourself in the foot

Yup. Listen to it (hit youtube) and think about the lyrics in the context I'm mentioning. A lot can be read into regarding PJ, side projects, needing something different, etc. Here's a rough sketch of the lyrics from me just listening to it:

Oh there's something in my past that I can't run away from
It keeps me hanging on
I keep waiting for things to change
It knocked me off my feet
Just the other day, boy

I need something different

Right now I'm feeling bold
I wanna move, I wanna dance, yeah
I stopped trying to control it
I gotta groove, gotta shake my ass, yeah

I need something different

I got the hell out the mall (them all?)
I took an exit through the side door
I looked up to the sky
A blue heron wrote hello, hoooo

I need something different

They could be doing the R.E.M. thing and hitting every genera on they way out. I hope not, but it could be.

I'll give it a listen for sure. Is the whole album worth my time?

Seemed like brad is about as cheese ball and glossy as this stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if Stone was a big fan of this album.

I don't have a feel for your tastes, so I really can't say. To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of most of the PJ related side projects. It's... different. Haha

Yeah, that's an element about the PJ side projects and about band member's tastes in music I've never sorted out. They put out some really weird and often corny side project stuff. But then there's Mad Season. Eddie is a fan of some music that I consider absolutely awful. I really don't know how a group of individuals with sometimes such awful taste in music and failings at side projects gets together to so frequently make such awesome music together. I used to be in the camp that would have said a Mike solo album, a Stone solo album or an Eddie solo album would be amazing. Instead we got things like a uke album. Haha

I'll never say I have this band totally figured out. ;)

Jeff's recent solo album had some solid material on it.

My pal just made a great point. Look at Creadys output.
Faithful given to fly present tense

All top drawer Pj songs

And he's the only one without a side project that he writes for.
Lot to be said for the side project bollox ruining Pj

I think it's fairly obvious that if anything is killing PJ, it's Brendan O'Brien. But they just might make gold despite themselves with this album.

Can't argue with his production on sirens at least. It needed to go big. And have that grand piano on it.
And if he's always pushing pj to the middle of the road at least with that song his instincts were spot on. I can hear this being a stripped down quieter number. I'm really glad it isn't.

It should have been just the piano and nothing else to complete the fucking picture

It's absolutely magical and I've got no problems with any of the songs we've had so far. But I'm talking about band dynamics. The whole setup is giving me strong reminders of Wayne's World being made over by a professional TV studio, and I'm not entirely convinced that the whole band can possibly be happy about this.

I think and in not sure but when you haven't created together for what, 4 years?
You're going to let a guy like that who you know and presumably trust to take hold and control over what is effectively a 4 year long creative vacuum as an entity

Like sports or playing shows, I'd imagine a studio setting would need quite a while to get into and good at

Seems to be they'd only be warming up to it after the first month.
To hear that it was done in 7 weeks total is a little shocking.
But good because you can easily overwork a collection of songs too, to the point where you no longer like them or want them included.

I'm thinking this might have happened with the first batch of songs cos reading online the other day, most of these songs are from the second session and two others are from backspacer.

You never know. As much as we'd all like to. Wish pj were a little more open about the studio aspect

They're transparent and open about all the wrong things, but that was always the way.
