One of the reviews listed which songs he suspected were from each session, or sounded like they were. It was the final paragraph of said review, the one where he said he got half of what he wanted.

That's the Altnation review.

I remember in the interview Mike said that Getaway, Lightning Bolt, MYM and Let The Records Play were from the second session. We know that Pendulum was from Backspacer. We can assume maybe that Swallowed Whole was from the first sessions, just cause it sounds like a Backspacer type song.
You edited your post? Well then so have I!

:haha: :haha: Yeah I figured out the review you were talking about when I Re-read your post

I remember them saying that they recorded like 7 or 8 songs in just the first session in an interview like a year back, and that they knocked out pretty quick. Remember that?

But if they got like at least 5 or 6 songs out of the second session, and they only got to 12 songs for the album, there must be some outtakes. But BoB said there weren't many at the listening party. He's probably lying.

Mike said they had like 30 ideas. And as we know with Cold Confession and Let It Ride, they will toss aside some of their best ideas.

Brendan O'Brien could well be a liar. I don't think "ideas" means completed songs though.

Maybe. Which interview are you basing this on?

Yeah, I know the ideas don't mean completed songs. But they've lied before. I called in to the very first PJ Radio show on Sirius XM and asked about a Lost Cats. I remember the answer I got was "There really isn't much in the vault"

Fucking liars, they were holding out with Cold Confession and Let It Ride and god knows what else!

In fact, I really hope somebody asks them about a Lost Cats at the town hall meeting. See what they say on the spot!

Wow, so that's not a new PJ Inc. thing, huh?

"I: Are the band precious about their material? Do you find yourself having to moderate between them?
BO'B: Yeah, each song is kind of whoever brings it in's baby. Thankfully, they're more willing these days to let me hold their babies, garnish them, and pop them into the oven until they're done perfectly."

some highlights from the Triple M interview posted above:

-mike thinks they wrote 15 'ideas' in addition to what they have put on the album
-mike's happy how sirens came out, how BoB helped him arrange it, and ed write lyrics
-infallible written by jeff is exciting
-songs getting shot down during recording process happens alot in the band
-mike describes sirens as writing it after seeing a roger waters concert and being blown away by it. He wanted to write some kind of 'dark pink floyd thing'. it later turned into something that was more expansive, the demo was a little less structured that the version that made the record. Brendan came in and helped arrange it and put some piano, and Ed wrote some lyrics. Mike was blown away when Ed put the lyrics over the track (in the second session)
-sleeping by myself is a short tune, pendulum too
-pendulum written by jeff for backspacer sessions. it never got realized for that record, didn't 'make sense' at the time. Ed suggested they bring it back for LB. Ed did another vocal take on it, and jeff or stone added some guitars, and thats it. It wasn't re-recorded. Mike doesn't play at all on it.
-LTRP, .Stone brought in the riff, Brendan heard it and said 'what is that riff'. Mike tried to take a Jeff Beck take on it.
-Swallowed Hole brought in by Ed during the second session. In the first session Ed didn't have many songs, maybe one. Mike looking forwarded to how the audience will relate to it and how they will play it live.

God bless Jeff, he's responsible for the 3 dark songs on the album, Infallible, Yellow Moon and Pendulum.

Yeah that was funny. Now he just needs to quit the band and this forum will shrink to 1/5 the size.

How do you even go from wanting to write a dark pink floydish song to writing Sirens?

I can only imagine that by "dark" he means "melancholy". He loves Kiss and Thin Lizzy. WTF does he know about "dark"? When he says "metal" he means oldskool hairy huggy-biker-bear stuff.

I feel the Pink Floyd vibe a bit and the song is somewhat dark, relationship wise, no?
