I’ve only listened to this on headphones so far, should I wait for the official release to listen on speakers?

the hi-hat is throughout, it's the time keeper and sits to the left of the snare drum; on the drum intro it's the thing going tsss-tsss-tsss-tsss along with the bass drum and snare; it's essentially two cymbals that you can open or close with a foot pedal

What do you have against left handed drummers?

Just had a full listen on a walk. After initially being really impressed when listening earlier in the week, I found the album tailed off quite a bit, particularly in the second half. CTG feels like it could be half the length and drags, though the production is fantastic. Retrograde and River Cross are forgettable.

I kept wanting to jump back to Who Ever Said which is one of the best things this band has ever done. Still blown away by that and Quick Escape.

nothing! I'm a left-handed drummer - I play open-handed, it never made sense to cross them over

also can you even fit the hat to the right of the snare? I guess you could?

lol.

Okay eds songs are starting to separate themselves as i become more familiar with them and now im super loving his contributions to this album. Regardless of being within the same realm of rock songs, the band is playing their hearts out on them and they are catchy as fuck.

It's been a real pleasure reading everyone's thoughts over these past few days, particularly McP's & Stip's.
I've elected to wait for full 16/44 CD-quality as my first listen, but, the words, thoughts, and feelings are making it more than worth the wait.
Thanks, geezers
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

There were always moments over the last 10 years where you could sense the greatness was still there.

They obviously spent the last 10 years raising families and re configuring what the band meant in their lives and the overall reaching world of music. I do remember a quote around Backspacer, or maybe it was s/t where ed said "forgive us if we allow ourselves to enjoy this now". I think it was pretty obvious this is what they were doing.

With regards to most of their individual solo work, and the occasional hints of greatness, and removing brendan o brien from the picture (he seemed to neuter their greatest abilities), its not a huge shock to me.

Well, its a shock, but the fanboy in me believed.

I too always believed they had it in them. They took a decade off.
