Guys, a huge part of my love for this album so far is Matt Cameron. He's not played with this much colour or interest since Riot Act, and he's a huge part of my love for that album as well. I used to define this band by Dave A., Jeff and Ed. Now I'm defining this album by Matt, Ed and Jeff. And my music tastes are all over the shop. I'm pretty good with this.

I think only one percenters like Ed get to do stuff like that. I can't relate to any of this hippy shit.stupidmop wrote:You've never Whispered songs inside the wind Breathing in forgiveness either I take it?KurtLeon wrote:Swallowed Whole might be the most insignificant song I've ever heard from Pearl Jam.

Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
Yeah I like Comatose I compare it to MYM, in that it's the fun rockin punk song. But Comatose was backed up by some strong hard songs. MYM stands alone on as the albums only fast song. It makes swallowing the other stuff a bit harder when you've waited so long.Come Back in Black wrote:Avacodo was awesome. Love the harder stuff... what you mentioned and Comatose.. Loved the Marker in the Sand and the Beatlesesque Parachutes. This makes me nervous. i have not heard any leaks other than sirens. I do love Lightening bolt from Wrigley thougso hopeing im into the studio version.Vindicator wrote:I just realized my major disappointment with the album. I look at Pearl Jam as my favorite ROCK band. I'm the guy that gets in the car and blasts Habit, Hail Hail, DTE, Last Exit, Grievance, Go at a very high volume. It's what I love most about them. All their other stuff is wonderful to me as long as I have some hard stuff to go along with it. With this album, we got ZERO hard rock songs. I love MYM, but it's more of a fun punk song to me. Getaway is nowhere near hard, even though I like the song.
So now we have not gotten a true hard rock song since S/T where we got some gems in Life Wasted and Severed Hand. GSMF and Got Some maybe tried, but were all New Wavey in the end. So I've been waiting for 7 years for a hard song , but they didn't have it in them. They made the album they wanted to make , but I can't say it doesn't disappoint me to not get at least ONE true rock moment on an album full of mid tempo songs.
But don't worry, the studio version of Lightning Bolt sounds great I'm sure you'll like it.

I dunno he's very in the background for me in all these songs. I've barely noticed the drumming at all. He was all over Backspacer in a good way, he's kinda disappeared here for me. And there's no Matt Cameron songs on the album which is another disappointment .

He isn't as prominent on Backspacer, mix-wise. He was good, but not quite as good as this for me. If you mean he played *harder*, well yeah, but more skillfully and appropriately? I don't think so.Vindicator wrote:harmless wrote:Guys, a huge part of my love for this album so far is Matt Cameron. And I did like Matt's drumming a lot on Backspacer, I did a drum review of it.

Yeah ill be fucked if I've ever felt like the sun or a cloud or whatever the hell. I give ed mad props for not mentioning waves though. Drowning sure, but no waves. Gotta be hard for him.BurtReynolds wrote:I think only one percenters like Ed get to do stuff like that. In fact do we have a wave count for the lyrics so far? I don't think I can remember any.

Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
I think Matt seems actually more interested in having the space of a mid-tempo song to play around in than the fast stuff. I can totally see why, I'm the same. It's going to be so much more pleasurable to play Sirens on the drums than MYM. I bet he kills it live, and all these other songs.

Yeah LB and MYM are the only songs I've noticed any significant drumming. I'll try to pay closer attention.evenslow wrote:Listen to the last 2 minutes of LB.Vindicator wrote:harmless wrote:Guys, a huge part of my love for this album so far is Matt Cameron. And yeah Harmless, I love how hard he plays on Backspacer. He is a beast on GSMF and Got Some, I noticed the drumming immediately. Not so much here so far.

Aren't there some crashing stormy waves in LB?harmless wrote:No waves. This is their urban album.stupidmop wrote:Yeah ill be fucked if I've ever felt like the sun or a cloud or whatever the hell. I'm just shocked Ed actually managed to make it through all six minutes of a power ballad without mentioning waves once. It may be the most surprising thing about the song.

And IMO Swallowed Whole should have been the first single!
My god, the bridge on that track is insane!

This might actually be a sign something is very wrong. Maybe eds been replaced by a pod person. Or a robot.
