I don't recall "Fifty-Four Forty or Fight!" having some sort of sundown provision. Really we should expand that claim all the way to the Atlantic.
But anyhow, no one seems serious about increasing defense production outside of say Poland. Ooh goody, the US is at a fraction of artillery production of what we were doing after the peace dividend in 1996 or so.
Destroying Russian arms depots is always good news.

I don’t agree with that. But obviously it’s a challenging war for Ukraine.
If Russia uses nuclear weapons that would be crossing a red line, and would bring the world against them.

You are basing your opinions off that article you posted, which stated early on that Putin has no desire to take over more of eastern europe, and thus created their entire narrative off that. Cause if the US/western world truly believed Putin was going to march further west, they would have taken drastic measures already.
I think that is a flawed argument. And it leads to just letting Putin take land and supposes he is playing with good intentions.

Here are some facts:
"As of 2024, Russian troops occupy about 20% of Ukraine. From a population of 41 million, about 8 million Ukrainians had been internally displaced and more than 8.2 million had fled the country by April 2023, creating Europe's largest refugee crisis since World War II."
"Kyiv claims to control over some 1,000 square kilometers (386 square miles) of Russian territory. In terms of its size, it’s similar to the amount of Ukrainian land Russia managed to seize so far this year, estimated by the US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) at 1,175 square kilometers (453 square miles)."
"Ukraine is a country n Eastern Europe at the Black Sea. The land has a total area of 603,550 km² (233,032 mi²) and a total coastline of 2,782 km (1,728.7 mi). This land area is approximately 87% of the area of Texas."

Russia is nowhere near close to winning this war, and there are a lot of factors involved.
Russia is advancing incredibly slowly in Ukraine, and it's taking a toll on Russia with the situation there gradually getting worse. There are experts that think their economy will take a major hit next year.
Experts also think that if Putin dies or any other scenario where he løses power, the next leader will change course drastically, and not in a bad way.
Besides, we can not be cowards and give up on Ukraine. A red line has been crossed, and we must help them fight for us.
Putin's Russia always wants more, can not be trusted, and only respects strong opposition. There is nothing they hate more than weakness.

I would like to see the west fund Ukraine to a point where Ukraine has re-established a robust domestic military industrial complex and then using their own military might repel russia
it might take 20 years
but it is the right thing to do
and will create a bulkhead to defend europe from future russian attacks
you can get around the paywall by going to archive.ph

i was at one point favorable to a peace treaty early in the war (not that my view matters or is impactful in any way) but largely for the sake of saving human lives
Russia has shown they will not relent however and have continued to aggressively target civilians, civilian infrastructure, and urban non-combat areas
so fuck them
Appeasement has not worked in the past (Germany WW2, Russia forming the soviet union) ... just leads to a worse problem later
gotta grind this out and support our ukranian friends to the bitter end
