I'm in the same camp. The production is excellent.

So far thinking it won’t beat the albums from the first decade of the band, although I will cherish it far more in the years to come than Ten/Vs, that surcive more on nostalgia and knowledge of their quality, than in any current interest I have.

But I do like it better than Backspacer and Lightning Bolt.

So it’s probably competing with Riot Act and S/T.

No qualms in saying that Gigaton is clearly better than anything since Yield. The first 3 albums can't be beat but I don't have any doubts placing this above everything since and including Binaural.

No Code and Yield are both great albums but a step down from the first 3. At this point in time, I put Gigaton in the same group. Will see how that changes over the years but given this album has much more depth, I doubt it will fall in my estimation like Backspacer and LB did eventually. Still like those but they aren't memorable or essential albums.

I'm inclined to agree with FJ here but I really wish S/T had been recorded/mastered properly so I could compare apples to apples with the awesome production of Gigaton.

Late period Pearl Jam either starts with Riot Act or Backspacer. Riot Act and S/T were both part of the arguable live band peak, had the same producer, and both are in direct conversation with each other. You can't separate them

i disagree. studio-wise, late period pj absolutely starts with S/T. it's the turning of a corner.

Yeah, I'd say Riot Act marks the end of the "middle-period".

I kind of feel like no matter how much time passes or how much more I listen to it, Gigaton is decidedly better than any of the last three albums.

Similarly, no matter how much time passes or how much more I listen to it, I really can't imagine it surpassing any of the first seven albums.

So its spot in my ranking is pretty much guaranteed to be fourth from the bottom and stay that way forever.

this could theoretically peak as high as 4. it nestles in nicely with my mid tier albums (yield, S/T, Backspacer, Lightning Bolt). time will tell. 8 is probably the floor

I could get with that, but I would have included Avocado somewhere.

I think you'd have to REALLY like Binaural and Riot Act to rank those two ahead of Gigaton, and I know some do. Sentimentality aside, I see Gigaton as top 4 or 5 musically.
