The actual books are long enough. If there's shit I need to know, Martin should put that stuff in the books. The rest of it is just trying to get me to spend my money. And I'll allow more leeway for this kind of stuff once he finishes his goddamn epic.

Of course. I love those books. My favorite is book 4, A Feast for Crows, which most people dislike and think is the weakest book. But I goddamn love it. That and Storm of Swords. Both just excellent fantasy fiction on every level.

I haven't read those prequel books, and I have very little desire to. Not exactly for the reasons Joey stated: it's more, like, I've already read all about them on the Wiki and have all the major plot points. There's plenty of other new books out there that I want to read.

Yeah, I'm kinda just being a brat. I would like to read those prequel stories eventually. But they are pretty low on my list of priorities right now. I still haven't read As I Lay Dying. Or everything by Toni Morrison. Or Proust. Or fucking Ulysses, for crying out loud.

i'm not dying to either, but it's available on my local library's website and not much else there is jumping out at me...i usually on read stuff from there on my lunch break or during downtime

That just reminded me that I had a dream about Ulysses the other night and meant to look something up in it. I'll never remember what, though.
