It's 5 minutes 40 or whatever it is, so yeah I think we're sure.
I wonder if a radio edit makes the song better?
Impossible

digster wrote:Finally heard the song...wasn't what I was expecting. It didn't seem so much power ballad as an overblown version of the kind of soft-country pop that Ryan Adams does pretty often. It also kind of reminded me of R.E.M.'s Around the Sun record; not so much in the instrumentation, but it's like they're taking these really hackneyed songwriting and instrumentation ideas and digging to find a good song in them.

On the first few times, I liked the song, but it's certainly a confusing listen.
Digster, where are you at right now with what you've heard from the record?

I wonder if it's just because Eddie is lazy and it's one less song he has to write.
Possibly, but he's clearly rejecting other stuff, and he's got most of the songs on this album, so...

That's kinda what I was thinking too
i dont know if anyone answered it earlier, but do we know if they are playing a radio edit today or the full version?
I'm not so sure the whole radio edit comment was legitimate or not.
thats mostly what i was wondering, i didnt know if it was from an official source or not, and the leak yesterday being the full song makes me thing there is no radio edit

Impossible

The small break after the first chorus and before the second verse will go in the radio edit and the small break towards the end

Is Jeff married/with children? He's the only one writing the darker songs, it seems. Maybe this really is the key variable.

He's not played with this much colour or interest since Riot Act, and he's a huge part of my love for that album as well. I used to define this band by Dave A., Jeff and Ed. Now I'm defining this album by Matt, Ed and Jeff. And my music tastes are all over the shop. I'm pretty good with this.

I dunno he's very in the background for me in all these songs. I've barely noticed the drumming at all. He was all over Backspacer in a good way, he's kinda disappeared here for me. And there's no Matt Cameron songs on the album which is another disappointment .
Listen to the last 2 minutes of LB.
that's the cure for everything

There was a Matt song rejected.

One from Mike, one from Stone, three or four from Jeff, and the rest are Ed's.

Sirens is one of Ed's best vocal performances EVER. And thats what makes this song great for me.

Music, production, melody aren't special at all, but ed somehow manages to elevate the song to a higher level.

and yes, fuck it, it's not what i would have expected from PJ - but that's a great thing.

So far, there are four songs that sound quite different from the stuff they wrote before - Getaway, LTRP, Swallowed and Sirens. And all of them are good or great. I have the feeling that LB will be a very special album.
welcome to the board :)

"Breathing in forgiveness" is kinda sarcastic; that one needs to just breathe (LOL) the air, and they're already forgiven, no god needed. It's kind of about self-forgiveness to me.

I think the only ones we still don't know are Getaway and My Father's Son (in terms of liner notes).

I often wonder if ed goes with directions/ songs he doesn't like that much just to not seem like a jackass to the rest of the band. I'm not talking about any specific songs here and I assume he'd veto anything he thought was really godawful/ didn't want to sing on, but there's always references to how its great it is that Eddie listens to thier songs and suggestions and shit nowadays. Which kinda implies its a recent development, or he's making a real effort or the band want him to know they're really greatful he'd stoop so low or someshit.

Then again songs do get fixerd from time to time so I'm not saying they'd be better if he was ignoring everyone and doing his own thing and I'm still wondering if whatever idea they had for the album got flipped upside down circa session no.2 . I dunno, the way they talk about each other is so odd sometimes.
