Just finally got my first listen in. Never thought they’d be able to make me cry again, but god damnit I broke. Best album since Binaural for me, just edging out Riot Act. Basically won’t need to listen to S/T, Backspacer or Lightning Bolt again. Can’t wait to hear how they attempt these songs live.

Guys, every time I listen to this album, these songs, I get more, and more, and I’m further convinced that Gigaton is a GREAT PJ album. This is really impressive on almost every possible level. I’m incredibly impressed.

My bottom three are still firmly my bottom three (Never Destination, Take the Long Way, Retrograde), but they're all on their way up. They're no worse than 3-star songs for me, which feels insane for Pearl Jam in the year 2020. And I can see some or all of them ending up as 3.5s.

And I guess the reason I'm having trouble believing this thing is as good as it seems is because the weakest moments (for me) come at points where it doesn't seem like a great album should sag.

But they're pretty good songs to me, and for some people they're great. So, personally, I'd quibble with sequencing being what's holding the thing down just a little bit.

Goddamn, though, it's good.

Been on steady rotation and some songs are moving in my rankings from my earlier rankings:

1. Who Ever Said **** (starting to warm to this one more)
2. Superblood Wolfmoon ***1/2 (same as before....why pick this as a single????)
3. DOTC **** (same)
4. Quick Escape ***** (same and so good)
5. Alright ***** (same....love this)
6. Seven O'clock ****1/2 (minus a few clunker lines, this one keeps getting better)
7. Never Destination *** (worst song on the album)
8. Take the Long Way **** (still second best rocker)
9. Buckle Up *** (this one has dropped for me....I only like one single section of the song)
10. Comes Then Goes ***** (jumped to a 5 for me....Ed finally writes a great solo song to match TMW)
11. Retrograde **** (still love that outro)
12. River Cross ****1/2 (Matt is on fire in this song on a pair of good headphones)
