WaPo now reporting that Pelosi is quietly gauging support for impeachment. People who spoke on condition of anonymity caution that it still could take a minute to gel, but I’m thinking it’s actually going to happen

Sounds like more heel dragging on her part. All she has had to do is open up an internet browser at some point over the last month to know the support is there.

It’s more complicated than that. For starters, she’s got to get confirmation on the stories around what happened, to be extremely confident that this won’t be a dead end road. And of course there’s some calculus to be done vis-a-vis competitive seats they’re holding that are up again in 2020.

And also establish a timeline for impeachment, to get some sense of where they’ll be in the process come election season.

I’d actually be scared if she’s making proclamations tomorrow. But hopefully within a couple more weeks.

The path to 2020 and beyond for the Democrats is to turn out the voters who just couldn't be fucking bothered to turn out for the NAFTA wife/crime-bill-lady. The pick-up-some-seats-in-the-suburbs moderate strategy has been thoroughly debunked.

I think there’s also a reasonable concern of their more rankerouds members getting primaried

Competitive seats are exactly why I said Slotkin is an indicator that it’s happening. She’s well into the “risky seat” spectrum on this. If she’s onboard, it’s probably happening.

I think if leadership stalls now, you’ll see a party begin to fracture.

To try and calculate an impeachment maneuver against voter turnout and potential impact on election seems a bit pointless. The lines have been drawn regardless. 38-40% support trump no matter what may or may not happen and That won’t change. Do your job and impeach the motherfucker.
