I get non-Star Wars people being confused as to whether or not Rogue One takes place before or after The Force Awakens or whatever.

My wife and I saw the new trailer during the Olympics. She totally understood that these weren't the same characters from The Force Awakens but she did ask for clarification on when exactly it takes place. She got that it was before The Force Awakens but that was about it.

I told her. She's clear on it. This movie is going to be great.

Collider talking about rumours that 8 will be brought back to a may release to capitalise on the 40th anniversary of Star Wars next year.

It is really odd they're this far along in getting it done. There will more than likely be reshoots but still...interesting idea

You really think released the same time they'd affect each other's numbers?

I wouldn't say it would all that much.

May is the start of blockbuster season, and the number of week 2-3-4-etc. viewings will be impacted in part by what else comes out soon after. there are fewer competing options for the december release date. Last year Force Awakens benefited from no blockbuster movies coming out for about a month after its release. It was the only game in town. BvS had several weeks of no competition. Suicide Squad came out after all the major summer releases had run their course. Dr. Strange in Nov. will probably not have any real competition (I'm not sure when that harry potter movie is released). Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Deadpool, and FA demonstrated you don't need a summer release to do summer numbers. There is no upside I can think of to moving the date.

Even beyond that, Friday May 5th is Guardians II. Friday May 26th is a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. There is not much competition in between. Why would Disney pull repeat business away from Guardians, and why would they jeopardize Pirates with lost viewers to FA repeats?

I was under the impression the Han movie was coming may 2018.

Not sure if that's correct. Guess they know how to market these things
