It’s a weird, confusing thing to admire someone for what their work has meant to you and culture, and also despise for them for horrible things they’ve done. It’s a very difficult kind of cognitive dissonance. I get the impulse to mourn affectionately and also the impulse to be repulsed by others doing that, especially when that mourning takes on a tone of hero worship. It’s a shitty situation from all sides.

My wife sent me a tweet that has since been deleted that said: "Kobe Bryant finally punished for traveling."

None of us are ten years old. The hero worship isn't a thing. This is just an incredibly sad event that feels extra personal due to this guy being in our living rooms 82 nights a year plus postseason for 20 years. The fact that people need to come in here less than 12 hours after someone died in a firey explosion with their 13 year old in a sad attempt to act all woke or something is a lot grosser than any relitigation of a man's mistake from 2003 you could do.
