Maybe they’re saving their big guns for something, but it feels like Republicans haven’t gotten any strategic guidance from the White House. They’re just falling back on good old deep state panic, but uncoordinated and not very heartfelt.

Really though, not using this time to more emphatically stress the content of the complaint feels like a messaging mistake.

I disagree. They’ll get there later with the whistleblower and others present during the call and subsequent conversations. It’s loke they learned with Mueller: Don’t give Trump & Co any opportunity to frame Maguire as politically motivated or otherwise untrustworthy. They can cool it on messaging for a bit, because we’re already off to the races. But barring a few minor gaffes that will get spun for a few days, I’d say this first hearing is a resounding success for the Dems.

Any meaningful headlines will be to the effect of “Maguire followed protocol during an ‘unprecedented’ event, calls elections security the greatest challenge facing national intelligence.”

I think that’s true. I also don’t think it required quite so many people repeating the same questions to get there.

I liked Castro reading a portion of the transcript and then the matching part of the complaint, and then pushing him on whether that illustrated a way that the complaint was accurate. Incorporate the details and the demonstrated accuracy of the complaint into your questions.

I stopped by Trump's Twitter feed. Holy shit. It's plastered with retweets and ranting. I don't use Twitter myself, but I would think someone would have to spend an enormous amount of their time putting all that junk on there.
