This is actually the 2nd commercial that has featured Harrison Ford / Pearl Jam
Remember this one....?

Even on this tiny clip it already sounds like they're gilding the lily.
where is the guitar?
Left channel, from the 40 second mark.
yeah, I hear a finger-picked acoustic - it sounds fine, I don't think they've over-egged the pudding like Backpacker or LB yet, we'll see
I actually hear a slide guitar before the 40 second mark so there are likely 2 guitars

The more I listened to it, the more it sounds like a bunch of parts mashed together for the commercial. It’s tough to hear over Ford though.

yeah it's definitely a messy montage (a messtage?) of different parts of the song

I am really excited to hear this song
the last time I was *excited* about this type of song, not just mildly OK with them, was "Into the Wild" and "Ukelele Songs"; the production mostly ruined them going forward; hopefully this producer has told them that and gone some way to correcting the problem
I don't mind if it's cleanly produced, I don't mind if it's not "stripped back" a la No Code, I just want something that feels slightly cold, melancholic, emotional, and not just wife, 2.4 kids and a dog saccharine

KidC-, of listening party fame, said Retrograde had a "Better Days" vibe to it. Since Retrograde comes right before River Cross, I'm wondering if this is the song they actually meant to apply that comparison to. Based on the clip, seems fairly apt for a one-listen comp.

No. Retrograde reminded me of better days. Retrograde starts out with the same instruments as better days. Not good with instruments...but it kind of sounds like an accordion? The song is a sirens/better days/ otherside hybrid. But amplified. Amazing atmosphere to it. i See it being a standout track for a lot of people.
River Cross had an amazing drum beat. You can hear a bit of that in the clip.

KidC, feel free to add details to the following post regarding some of the songs off gigaton that u haven't mentioned.
Who Ever Said - rocker
Superblood Wolfmoon -rocker
DOTC -synth pop
Quick Escape -"lead by a huge Jeff Ament bass groove"
Alright -"builds more slowly atop an uplifting melody,"
Seven O'Clock -"trippy Pink Floyd vibes"
Never Destination -"evokes ... MFC"
Take The Long Way -"a riffy monster"
Buckle Up -"one of the more abstract songs"
Comes Then Goes -"Pete Townshend-worthy acoustic guitar aggression"
Retrograde -"reminiscent of 2010-era Pearl Jam singles such as 'Just Breathe' and 'Sirens'"
River Cross -"recalls Peter Gabriel-era Genesis songs such as 'Carpet Crawlers' in its simmering intensity"

Were listening party attendees selected based on their complete inability to use words to describe sounds?

Ahhhh. So sorry. It’s been a couple weeks. with only one spin of the record, a couple shots of tequila with Eddie, and a tipsy rest of the evening my memory of specifics is fading. I stand by my better days - retrograde comparison. Also, Someone mentioned Never Destination sounded like MFC? I would disagree. The song sounded more in the vein of supersonic/get right/ole. Take the long way sounded like supersonic meets cropduster. Both are Punk PJ. The latter has an odd time signature ala crop duster/evacuation/other matt songs?
I also remember thinking 7’oclock was a continuation of alright. Alright is super sparse and 7 is super full. Kind of felt like one huge song.
And for what it’s worth I was with someone who stopped really listening to PJ after yield and they said they would definitely be spinning this album. First 3 and last 2 tracks specifically.
It’s an album worthy of the hype all PJ fans give new albums. Y’all will love it.

I can get behind songs that sound similar to get right, cropduster, and evacuation.

I'd definitely welcome another Matt Cameron song in the vein of "Evacuation"
That would be cool.

Given that they already gave us a snippet of River Cross, it is likely to be released as the third single. Personally, I would prefer Retrograde or Seven O'clock since I have already heard the Ed solo live version of River Cross and have an idea of what it could sound like on the album. Totally new music is better at this stage.
