yeah - like most of their stuff, each of the songs reveal a little more as you keep listening. I can't get enough.

Now it's beginning to sink in. Even when I didn't like it that much at first, I kept going back to it not out of obligation but because I couldn't keep away. Now, the more I listen, the more the nuances and subtleties surface and the more the melodies click. Really good stuff.
Some lyrics still rub me the wrong way (Slipped), but now I'm able to get past that and just enjoy the music.

i've been listening to it constantly too when i have time to listen to music. im enjoying it more, mostly on the musical side, but i beginning to feel as this might be matt's least effective and striking effort out of the past 3 albums. in a lot of ways this album is more similar to HV than boxer or 'gator, in musical expression and mood. lyrically, im not connecting as i did to albums before, including with the mood, the picture being portrayed, or even a story. there's nothing like all the wine, mr november, apartment story, fake empire, afraid of everyone, conversation 16, etc. all of these songs, to me, told a story, either introspective or observatory. the new songs are saying something, but i'm not sure what. they're not as linear, but phrased. i do feel that the strongest efforts, musically and lyrically are sea of love, graceless and humiliation. to a certain extent, live in salt and demons.
i've enjoyed the few live takes that ive seen on youtube, so i expect some of my opinions to change after the show at merriweather. i've taken the next day off, so im going to be in the right mindset to fully take in the new songs.

It will take another 10 listens before I truly get it like their other albums, but I'm enjoying my first listen.

Bummer. I turned this off halfway. Just feel like I've heard all this before.
I'll keep at it.

Yes, some of the drama has been removed, but it's been replaced with mood and intimacy. I fucking love it.

So we get a very very good QotSA album and a very very good new album from The National. Both releasing only weeks apart. It's a good time to be a music fan.

I don't think it gets released until this fall.

I wasn't feeling the first half of this, but the second half is kicking my ass with greatness.
awkward, clumsy lyrics and a drab singer? Have you ever heard The National? its kind of what they do.

After about 3 listens ho hum.
I am catching some good lyrics but not as much as previously and what is really lacking to me is the music is not catching my attention as much as it did on the previous albums.
not giving up its just not coming as easily as the last two

"I am secretly in love with everyone that I grew up with" is just a great lyric.
