I didn't know this thread existed.

If I did, I would have said that the only other drummer I knew that came out of the songs that they played besides Keith Moon was Matt Cameron.

P.S. The end

Listening to Superunknown and Matt is so good. He is merely good for Pearl Jam.

Matt Cameron is to Superunknown as Jack Irons is to Yield.

I get him big time as Soundgarden's drummer. He was born to play for that band.

With Pearl Jam, he's merely solid. Sometimes great.

Ugh, I can't resist talking drummers. :) It's fascinating to me the different flavor the Dave's, Jack, and Matt all brought to the band.

Also, I agree 100% with you. Matt just isn't the same in PJ. When I saw SG live a few years ago, I was blown away by Matt. With PJ, I don't feel that way about him as much. Some songs, yeah, Matt is super impressive, but I don't know, to these ears, he's just never really gelled with PJ the way he has with SG.

Part of me wishes it was mandatory for Pearl Jam to change drummers every 4 years. They'd be forced to adapt and create a different sound.

That would be interesting. Keep the guys fresh and force different styles. I bet Barrett Martin would fit in with them pretty well. We know he already worked well with Mike.

What are your thoughts on the Wellwater Conspiracy?

I feel like Matt brings a fresh angle to writing a Pearl Jam song, and in that way, he's similar to Jack. Except, PJ used to write around Jack's songs, where now they just turn Matt's songs into "Pearl Jam"

Just listen to his creativity in simply covering that EODM song. No one, except maybe Jeff, would have have had that fresh of a take.

Me too and I think the songs he's written for Pearl Jam have been among their best, I just don't think he really shines when he plays their other songs.
