Yeah, for now, at least, I'm really coming around on this song and its placement.

"I am a recluse in search of new friends" is such a PJ lyric

Yes! There are some parts of the song that are great. Overall it's a bit uneven for me.

What do you all think is going on here? I really like this section (best part of the song. Both this and Take the Long Way end on these detour moments that are the highlight).
I think the last part is "So I say 'till then', never say goodbye"... which isn't that much different, but is way better.
Without having looked through all the lyrics yet, I find the album has a lot of these clever little turns of phrase and lines that really stand out.

Honestly i think with the chord structures (A to G, D to C) its very just...rock n roll. Its very tom petty. The A to G and rhythm is damn near exactly listen to her heart. So, my point, i truly just believe he wrote this little last section as a dedication and goodbye to tom petty.
"she was a singer in a rock n roll band" i mean, what tom petty doesnt have that line in it?!
I dont think this section means anything to the larger context of the song, but a straight moment to honor tom petty.

This is a really fun song, and it gets better as is progresses. Agree with Strat on the Petty tribute too.

least favorite on the album. just have zero interest in these punk pop spritzy wordy songs. ill take retrograde over this any day. do like the petty tribute.

This feels a lot more substantial to me than just another "punk pop spritzy wordy songs" song.

I really don't understand some of the hate; I like this one almost immediately after first listen. Definitely beats more of the pop-ish rock songs of the last two albums.
