Bwahahaha. Bill Simmons signed off by calling the new album GigaTRON.
Listening to this guy return again and again to why real rock music isn't popular anymore was almost physically painful, and then at the end he starts talking glowingly about Greta Van Fleet.RAG319 wrote:Pretty good interview so far, but I just got to the 70-minute mark and I hate hate hate it when Bill uses that old "let's talk about rock bands cause they're aren't many anymore" bullshit
This album is so good I so wish they were able to deliver the tour because I really feel it would have been a great onescrub12 wrote:When Ed said the best they sounded was yesterday because he was listening to their rehearsal tapes for the tour, that hurt a little bit. Hopefully the Europe tour is good to go, but I struggle to see how with what's going on.
I felt the silence from JA/EV regarding the GVF comment was telling.Birds in Hell wrote:Listening to this guy return again and again to why real rock music isn't popular anymore was almost physically painful, and then at the end he starts talking glowingly about Greta Van Fleet.RAG319 wrote:Pretty good interview so far, but I just got to the 70-minute mark and I hate hate hate it when Bill uses that old "let's talk about rock bands cause they're aren't many anymore" bullshit
Heavy, heavy Gen X/proto-Boomer energy.
Silence from Ed and Jeff when he mentions Greta van fleet. That was nice of them to not say anything disparaging of that shit band.Birds in Hell wrote:Listening to this guy return again and again to why real rock music isn't popular anymore was almost physically painful, and then at the end he starts talking glowingly about Greta Van Fleet.RAG319 wrote:Pretty good interview so far, but I just got to the 70-minute mark and I hate hate hate it when Bill uses that old "let's talk about rock bands cause they're aren't many anymore" bullshit

I can understand what he's at least saying in terms of rock capturing the musical zeitgeist right now, but yeah.Birds in Hell wrote:Listening to this guy return again and again to why real rock music isn't popular anymore was almost physically painful, and then at the end he starts talking glowingly about Greta Van Fleet.RAG319 wrote:Pretty good interview so far, but I just got to the 70-minute mark and I hate hate hate it when Bill uses that old "let's talk about rock bands cause they're aren't many anymore" bullshit

There are so many great fucking rock bands out there. Countless. Why is it so hard for these guys to look for it?

Maybe rock music was an enjoyable historic quirk, fuelled by the invention of the electric guitar, and it ran its course over fifty years or so.
Classic boofhead reasoning in which everything from when a person's teenage/younger years is "normal" (despite how idiosyncratic it may be), and any subsequent change is a deviation from the mean.
What I mean is Gen X'ers who enthusiastically adopt the mindset of Boomerism.evenslow wrote:not to be a stickler but proto-boomer is the silent generation and doubt they know led zeppelin let alone greta van fleet.Birds in Hell wrote:Listening to this guy return again and again to why real rock music isn't popular anymore was almost physically painful, and then at the end he starts talking glowingly about Greta Van Fleet.RAG319 wrote:Pretty good interview so far, but I just got to the 70-minute mark and I hate hate hate it when Bill uses that old "let's talk about rock bands cause they're aren't many anymore" bullshit
