Just over two months into watching movies from 2023 now, and I now have 100 movies left to watch, including most of the biggest movies of the year.

1. Tombstone – His portrayal of Doc Holliday is iconic and remains one of his most celebrated performances.
2. Willow – Kilmer’s charismatic turn as Madmartigan adds a memorable, swashbuckling energy to this classic fantasy.
3. Heat – In a film full of heavyweight performances, Kilmer’s contribution to the ensemble stands out in a well-crafted crime drama.
4. Top Gun – As Iceman, he delivered a cool, understated performance that perfectly balanced the high-octane action.
5. The Doors – His transformation into Jim Morrison was both daring and immersive, showcasing his versatility.
6. The Saint – This role highlights his ability to pull off a suave, secret-agent persona with plenty of charm.
7. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang – Kilmer brings wit and a memorable presence as detective Gay Perry in this clever neo-noir.

Some honorable mentions:

• Top Gun: Maverick – While his role is smaller, the film itself is a top-tier production and a worthy nod to his legacy.
• And the documentary Val – It offers a fascinating glimpse into his career and persona, rounding out the broader picture of his contributions to cinema.

You forgot MacGruber

Top Secret ! and Real Genius were 80s gems that I thought about, and The Salton Sea and Felon were later successes, but I have seen praise for his role in Macgruber as well. I actually haven’t seen it. I’ll make sure to see it in his honor.

I should watch Top Secret! I've heard nothing but good things.

Across The Spider-Verse, Oppenheimer, Perfect Days, Monster, The Holdovers, Past Lives, Poor Things, Anatomy Of A Fall, Killers Of The Flower Moon, The Iron Claw, All Of Us Strangers, John Wick 4, The Zone Of Interest, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, Blackberry, Are You There God, It’s Me Margaret, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Barbie, Dungeons & Dragons and Saltburn.

There are a few other 2023 movies I would like to see, especially Sing Sing and La Chimera. Haven’t been able to find them here, but will sooner or later for sure. Will probably add a couple more as well, like Io Capitano and Red Rooms. But should be finished with 2023, and ready to make a top 10 list, in a month at most.

Edit: added Io Capitano, The Taste of Things, Red Rooms, Parachute, Bottoms, The Sweet East, La Chimera & Sing Sing. Will end the 2023 run of movies with these last 28. Will with great likelyhood watch more 2023 movies in the future, but after all these movies, I'm confident I can put together a top 10 list, having seen all the 2023 movies I planned to see.

Edit part two: on the 29th of April, we got down to the original 20 again, will continue on those tomorrow. Io Capitano, La Chimera and Sing Sing were all excellent.

Edit part three: 4th of May, Sunday evening. Just finished The Iron Claw, and saw the great Perfect Days earlier today. Eight movies left from 2023 now. Will watch Oppenheimer last, probably next Sunday.

Finally saw The Iron Claw yesterday. Having grown up watching wrestling, and still a fan to this day, I knew their history well. Obviously it's a tragic story, and the movie had a lot to handle. I think it was the wrong choice to cut out a Von Eric brother. Still it's hard to blame them, since even with the deaths they did include, they seemed too caught up in the tragedy in the second half. The wrestling and other events fell to the background completely, and you got the feeling that in ten years, all the happened was the tragedy. Nevertheless, I did fully appreciate the movie, and the strong acting performances delivered by the cast. Definitely a top ten candidate from 2023.

2023 took about four months to get through from start to finish. Now it’s time for 2024, and I’m also preparing 2025 for later this year.

Have only watched some minor stuff (a few documentaries, miniseries, shorts) so far from 2024, and nothing relevant to this thread from 2025 (zero logged on letterboxd/imdb from 2025 yet).
