Why? If it's propaganda specifically aimed at children, I don't see what kind of movie could be more dangerous. A wolf in sheep's clothing.
The main goal of the movie is to sell toys.

.
That's kind of an even better argument for why it's dangerous. Look at our generation and it's dumb Star Wars brains! A whole generation lost to toy sellers!
well yeah of course but i mean capitalism dude...Mattel is coming back and now they want this new generation of kids and their parents too.

See that's not even the best way to sell toys. They're trying to sell a shitty brand of feminism. The best way to sell toys would be to make this a fun, goofy, girly romp people of all ages (and politics) can enjoy. Because toys should be about escapism, not indoctrination.

tree_ wrote:Really I think it just sounds like a shitty movie that didn't do what it set out to do well. But on top of that I think it's irresponsible to put this kind of messaging into a Barbie movie. It's like making a Ninja Turtles movie about how boys are superior to girls. Just fucked up.
There are TONS of movies with that setup.

Also, lets wait 10 years and see were culture is...If it changed enough, Mattel will make "Slutty Barbie: the movie", dont worry.

I hope to see everyone setting themselves on fire for that one too!

what brand/flavor of feminism do you prefer?

I haven't seen the movie. I don't know what brand of feminism they're selling.

Feminism doesn't have to be a zero sum game. What a shitty message. There are ways we can all win.

Ok, and they are only going to promote messages that safeguard their billions of dollars, right? I think your idea of safe might be safe for them, not us.

Though like Tree I don't necessarily buy the argument that these messages in movies are there strictly to sell toys. I've argued this before, but there is a bigger game that "corporations are just trying to sell products" doesn't cover.

I'm afraid I might become the wrong kind of feminist if I watch this movie.

Corporations want money dude. not pay taxes, money, power.

if their marketing departments say some kind of feminism is going to sell, they will make a very safe movie about it.

That would be a shitty message if it was the message of the movie. Why don't you see it rather than tumbling further down the rage bait, alt-right grifter rabbit hole?

If Ben Shapiro lied about what actually happens in the plot of the movie, I'm going to be so mad!

So you are trolling?

I can't tell and frankly you've become exhausting either way. I'm going to stop engaging with you.

I don't think Ben Shapiro is lying about the plot. He explains it quite eloquently. I can see someone who loves these weird feminist ideas loving the plot as its told from his mouth. But as it were, I am become disappointed in a movie for which I was once exited
