Strat is right, buddy. The average Pit fan that wants to fit every fucking show on heir iPad mini and listen to it while rollerblading just wants to listen o som live PJ. They aren't as anal about the quality as you are.
Personally, I keep FLAC files of everything, and throw a few mp3s on he iPod, but most casual listeners don't even care enough to do that.

I was whatevering his calling it cute that some people actually respect tapers wishes not to spread poor quality versions of their material.
Listen, I think gremmie sucks. I'm not saying the site needs to get shut down or anything, I just think a site like this could be one much better. I'm not going to do it myself, because I don't have the time or inclination to do it. If you like the site, and don't give a fuck, then by all means use it.
But if those were my tapes that I made, and I saw some dude hosting 160kbs versions of them with my source info left out entirely, I'd be asking asking them to be taken down.

I was "loling" you referring to the old days as a time where things were converted to mp3....

By old days I meant the late 90s/early aughts.

This thread is a refreshing welcome to the PJ forum. I'm really glad gremmie stopped by yesterday.

In the words of Monty Python, "There's no pleasing some people."
cutuphalfdead, you come off as incredibly arrogant. Couple that with a standoffish attitude that 'you're not going to help fix the problem' just makes you a talking head.
Your mantra that, "If you're gonna do it, do it right." misses a critical qualifier. That is, it's "your" version of what is right. A majority of people who visit gremmie.net, or the dot net, or fucking gremmieland, find it valuable. I know this because of the feedback we get is overwhelmingly positive. There's a reason we have so many fans, we're doing something right.
But instead of just complaining (like some people) I'll reach out and help. If your collection of Pearl Jam is of a higher quality, then organize it and send it to me. We'll sort through it, assess the quality, and if we agree with you we'll upload and overwrite our current files - and of course we'll credit your contribution. Should you decide you're above such a task, then that's fine, we'll carry on, peddling our low quality wares to the ignorant masses.
Please email me at
m@gremmie.net to discuss further.
cutuphalfdead wrote:Whatever, we just see things fundamentally different. This is the best he can do, and for many people having this collection is great. My complaint is it's become "the" source for this type of stuff and it's just poorly done from the standards that I would have for something like this. At the very least I want source info for the recordings. There are so many different recordings it's good to know which one you got so you can compare it when you stumble upon another one. And when you're converting to a lossy format, which I don't think should be done in the first place, especially with live audience recordings, it's a good idea to be upfront with the lineage.
When people used to trade for these things the old fashioned way, it was always made clear among traders that if you convert to mp3 it's for your own personal collection, and not for circulation. Just because the technology changed doesn't mean that becomes less important.
The dot net has grown into a pretty extensive archive for live Pearl Jam and the like. It's my opinion that in the long run, you're doing the community a disservice by being an archive containing 160kbs mp3s with no source or lineage information. It's not hard to do, but it's hard to fix.

You mean, the same organization that reportedly called people at home to discuss things they wrote on a message board? Yes, I absolutely think they would be that blatantly inept at PR.
that actually happened? What was it about?
This sounds so bizarre, that it may have been true.
It happened.
maybe it is the stipian manure that allows the fallow fields of PJChat to occasionally yield bountiful harvests such as these. i am fascinated by this revelation, and am disappointed details have not yet been supplied.

Details were supplied. It was posted and talked about on the old board. Where? I don't know.

How about this, I'll gladly do a HD&P for the dot net. Send me an external drive and I'll copy my collection to it and mail it back to you. Make sure it's at least a terabyte. Then you'll have everything in lossless, with all the proper source information, and you can stop hosting very poor bitrate versions of audience recordings with no credit to the taper.
