They were technically with J Records (Sony Music) during the S/T era. Not sure when they signed the distro deal with UMPG, but maybe it included stuff from J Records?
oh yeah J Records..then it was during LB maybe? not sure when Universal appeared

See this article from 2016;
https://www.umusicpub.com/us/News/2016/ ... -UMPG.aspx

When I got struck down for Dissident it was a track claimed by Sony, but removed by Universal on a manual review.
Universal owns the entire catelog.
In the process of examining and taking notes on all 4,000+ channel tracks these last couple weeks I came to better appreciate how complicated the ownership web really is :search:
(and also how few people own everything lol)

I am fully onboard this train.

I think it's arguably the band's best song post-Binaural.

What about it makes you say that? To me, it's always felt like a severely meandering excuse to jam with a couple of nice lyrics thrown in, which, granted, would have been a pretty awesome respite during the relative wasteland of Backspacer and Lightning Bolt.

I think a "meandering excuse to jam" is exactly the kind of song I'd wish they'd write more often.

I think all of the musical ideas are really strong, I think they work together really well, I think Ed does exactly what's needed and nothing more, I think the band play the hell out of it - there's much to love and very little to criticise to my ears.

It's also the kind of song they could only have written with Matt, which is a big plus in my book: the idea of really committing to this version of the band, not trying to hark back to a previous version of themselves or giving Matt material that doesn't play to his strengths.

I've been a big fan since the first time they played it live (Dublin 2010, I think). As far as modern Pearl Jam, it's virtually the template of what I wish they were doing more of.

Did some prat really post that on the 10c forum? Not surprised.

Yeah probably best song they made since Avocado, maybe better than anything on Avocado but some good challenges on there though.

Yeah, the whole extended solo has the energy of Ten/Vs/Vitalogy. Great guitar, and a WICKED bass line.
That bass just blows me away. It's worth stopping and listening to it, to appreciate just how awesome it is (and how challenging to play).

The interplay in the middle is fantastic. Everyone, and especially Jeff, is killing it. I just don’t feel the song that’s framed around it, personally.

Fortunately, I feel very comfortable believing (without any evidence to speak of) that they’ve got much more interesting unreleased material in waiting…material that I hope they will someday share.

It’s like c’mon fellas, let me see what you got up your sleeve

I appreciate this explanation. I think I agree with McParadigm in that I like the parts, I just don't know that they are put together to my liking. I feel the same way about a nonexistent song called something like Final Term. Sorry 96583UP for not letting you have the last word.

Inside Job is another example of more expansive, dare I say almost proggy material that I'd like to see them do more of. There may even be more examples in their vault somewhere...

Fun fact, did you know they played the unreleased song 'Off the Earth' more times on stage (13x) than the following Backspacer & LB songs: force of nature, speed of sound, my fathers son.

And also more than the following Gigaton songs: alright, take the long way, buckle up, river cross, never destination, retrograde

More than Retrograde really surprises me. Thought that had been played quite a bit. Force Of Nature's lack of airplay continues to confuse me.

Force of nature is a perfectly decent studio song. But it doesn’t play well to the masses in a live setting; only people like us really enjoy it.

The Third Man Record version of OTE is really great. It seems like then honed in on what they wanted the song to be.
