The Children-of-Men-style long tracking shot was awesome. It was like watching a rat try and escape a maze.

I thought this episode was a great bit of bait-and-switch storytelling; after how last week's episode ended, I was sure that they were at least going to get to Ledoux in episode four (makes sense: we're halfway through the season, it's about time they "wrapped up" the 1995 storyline and focused on the present day). While I'm still eagerly awaiting his arrival on the scene, I wasn't disappointed with another episode of them chasing down leads. Now that it's apparent that the present-day detectives are mining for some of the "inconsistencies" in the original case, I can imagine that Hart and Cohle are going to slip up soon, but I'm not sure what kind of repercussions that might have.

Yup. I am eagerly waiting to see what events transpired to transform the intense and singularly-focused Cohle of the back story into the beaten-down burnout guy in present day.

Although it was a tad unbelievable I thought last night's episode was terrific. I didn't even realize that last scene was one long, continuous shot until near the end. Very well done.

I don't think it was, they use motion to make it look like one long shot, but it was awesome so who cares?

The best sequence of the show is still 2012 Rust's monologue to end ep 3, but that project shootout was real fun.

Whoever's reviewing this over at the AV Club has been making the point that the writer/director of this series has done a pretty great job of keeping Marty out of Walter White/Tony Soprano anti-hero territory, and I think a line like that is a great example of how. Besides the fact that we want him to get the killer off of the street, who's actually rooting for Marty? Not me.
