Man, it really is. I knew 'Mercy Mercy Me' already, and one more listen solidified it as one of my favourite songs ever.

When I was doing the 50's/60's/70's night at the club I used to play Inner City Blues into Living For the City all the time.

I'm listening to Sly and the Family Stone at the moment. Where should I go after Stand?

There's A Riot Goin' On is the other masterpiece (and an answer of sorts to Marvin Gaye's What's Going On), but it's a HUGE departure. Very dark, gritty, slow...really revolutionary stuff, but not an easy listen at all. If you'd rather wait to dig into that one, either 1973's Fresh or 1968's Life are excellent choices that are more in line with Stand!

Here is another album (and artist) you should dig into while you're doing Stevie, Marvin, and Sly...

Thanks. Actually I'm really enjoying the harder edge to this one. Lots of rock influence and distorted vocals etc. It's cool. Yeah, they seem maybe more revolutionary than other stuff. I'm a fan.

The Temptations are a must too. I could be wrong, for some reason I think Skitch is a big Temptations guy. He might be the best one to tell you where to start with them, though they have a two disc compilation called Psychedelic Soul that will tear your mind up.

OK, will do!
I'm going to need some Marvin and Sly albums, but don't want to make you busy. Actually I'm lying, I'd love to make you busy, but appreciate you have a life so don't want to be uploading albums for me all the time.

Glad you're digging Sly. For me personally, no band ever was as good at their absolute peak as Sly & the Family Stone.
And I don't mind putting stuff up for you. I have very little else to do with my life at the moment. Let me find a few albums to put up. I'll definitely put up Riot and Superfly, and maybe a few others.
And Motown is love, friend.

I think I have a few cool Motown compilations I'll try to put up too.

The day I got Sly & the Family Stone's Greatest Hits CD was one of the greatest days of my life. Honestly, if I were only allowed to take one CD to listen to for the rest of my life, that would probably be it.

They really are more inventive with distorted vocals and stuff than I would've expected from the genre.

I'll think you'll be really surprised at how devastatingly groundbreaking a lot of these artists were. Rock bands pretty shamelessly ripped off a lot of what they were doing.
