ive watched the first three and its starting to pick up steam a bit. Lindsay has aged a ton, and look silly with long hair.

It's not as consistently funny, but the high points are still glorious.
The bit about tipping African Americans was fantastic.

absolutely on the tipping thing.
Episode 1 seems to rely entirely on rehashing old bits. 2 gets into the new storyline a little better, and 3 seems to be starting new jokes. Im encouraged.

These are really weird for me. Funny, but weird. I'm hoping they pick up steam as they go along.

I think they got the feel and the characters down pat, but the problem was that they had to really limit themselves with the callback jokes. Too many, and it would have been a retread. That means this season has to build its own internal reference points, while also catching up the characters and capitalizing on their new situations. I'm only 4 in, but if the rest of the season is like these first four I'm not going to be crushed. There are some classic moments, some dragging moments, and a lot of stuff that will probably play better on the second viewing.
One thing I will say is that they are still managing to pull the callbacks out of the ether. There's no traditional comedic thought to that stuff....ostriches, the prayer hands, in-flight magazines, etc....it's all just as irreverent as it ever was.
Anyway, it was all worth it for the look on my wife's face during the Thanksgiving "miracle" scene.

i watched only the first ep when it was put up last night. i think the biggest laugh i had was ron howard having to clear his throat at the beginning. hopefully things pick up- from what some of you are saying that is the case so i feel a little more optimistic.

It's always the small stuff with this show.
The look on Gob's face right before he does the mouse thing a third time.

I had to pause it until I calmed down.
But I'm really very drunk right now so

Edit: The first half of the Gob episode is 100% AD.
I don't know if any episode has captured the magic of the series completely, but each one has multiple moments that are up there with the best of them. And, like I said, it always FEELs like Arrested Debelopment, never a sad rehash or nostalgia grab.

once they get past these individual episodes with all the flashbacks and return to a true ensemble show, it should get better. i've really only enjoyed the michael episodes thus far.
