There are a couple of comments in the last few months from Tom about planning/wanting/thinking about a new album, but needing to find some ideas that don't have their own songs yet.

Before you get excited, this is a quote from 2006 about the need for such ideas, where he opted to give some examples of recent efforts:
"Look, my wife just made this one: 'She stole the Blush From a Rose'. That's almost a song. Or: 'Life Will Be Different In Chicago'. You can think of something right away."
Also, he did mention an album titled Hell Broke Loose in 2004, so...

...new album by 2018?

Maybe this will help Durden,Tyler come around on the replacements:

Or maybe just som Tom Waits fans would like to hear him jamming out with the replacements...

I have zero beef with The Replacements. I just haven't listened to any of their stuff. But they're a band I've wanted to check out for a long, long time.

I've had their discog in the car all summer and the tail end of spring, also spin them fairly often on the train.

Spinning Bad As Me. This fucker is aging really well. I like it more now than I did a year ago.

Oh man, his vocals are amazing on that record. Earth Died Screaming is the only true evolutionary blues song I've ever heard. No other white guy has ever made the blues sound like that. Ever. And Black Wings.... what a panty dropper.

We all make mistakes. Hell, I still love Alanis Morissette. I have no room to judge.

Her first album was amazing. But when i see her actual work, and by actual i mean every record she did after Jagged little pill, im happy i never went trough an Alanis phase.

I can understand that. But she's got some really great stuff post JLP. I think her second and third albums are definitely worth checking out. Everything after that is touch and go. But there's still a lot there that I appreciate.

Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie is her best album, imo.
