Mangino was actually a hell of a coach for what he had to work with there. That is a tough conference these days to crack the top half in.

They had the advantage of not playing Texas Tech, OU, or Texas in the old Big 12 rotation every 2 years which helped him look really good. He was a good coach though. Football will never be a priority there.

I agree with this statement. One of many examples of how a team who made their conference championship got screwed over in the bowl selection process. Hopefully, that will start to change now with the new setup.
