There were parts of this I thought were pretty cool, but then there were parts I hated with a vengeance. I think this was better then the third one, but still not as good as Salvation, which is where I'd wished they'd carried on from

well, i liked it. wasn't anywhere near as bad as the reviews and comments had made it seem to me. we watched the 3D release and i thought the visual effects, from recreating the first movie's opening scenes to the t-3000/5000/whatever, were really impressive. i never saw t3 or salvation, but i feel like while genisys doesn't really match the tone or drama of those first two (and just isn't as good a movie as either one), it's not a complete embarrassment compared to those two either. *shrug*

Regardless of opinions about the film's quality, it boggles my mind that anyone could think the effects were "impressive" here.

bad effects can take you out of movie. it never happened for me here. you have a cgi 1984 arnold that looked great. you have a near shot-by-shot remake of the opening scenes of the first movie that looked great. you have a projected human entity in skynet that never looked fake or out of place, even with the scene moving around it. i dunno man, maybe it was the 3D glasses or something else, but *i* didn't see any of the usual tell tale signs of subpar effects.

It wasn't really the effects that took me out of the story so much as it was the poor dialogue and forced attraction between two characters who had zero chemistry together

I haven't seen it yet, but it seems its a failure in the US box office... does it makes any sense to watch it if they are not going to make another one?

Everyone is planning trilogies these days, but they won't if they tank. I heard a rumor that they knew they had a bomb on their hands so they added a lot of voiceover and stuff to kind of wrap it up. I dunno if thats true since I havent seen it.

Anyway, I think it did ok internationally because those internationals will watch anything.

I watched this last night with properly lowered expectations. I hung in there, but man, everything after JC showing up was just ridiculous.

Also, Khaleesi and the guy playing Reese gave awful performances; they made Arnold look like a seasoned thespian.

I somewhat agree with this. I finally got around to watching this, filtered through lowered expectations via RM, and I was surprised I didn't hate it. I thought parts were fun, and parts were stupid, but overall I liked it. What can I say? I'm a sucker for the Terminator.

I also didn't hate T3, but I wish they would have carried on more along the lines of Salvation, as it was probably the best since T2.

T3 and Salvation are masterworks next to this.

Yeah, it's probably the worst of the lot, but still, I [kinda] liked it. I don't know, I guess it's akin to stip liking The Fixer or something.
