I don't see how NE has a chance at repeating without Revis. Failing on this one would be a big blow. Brady window is shrinking, time to strike now, Robert!
Darrelle Revis to become free agent
http://espn.go.com/boston/nfl/story/_/i ... 20m-option
The New England Patriots will not pick up the $20 million option in Darrelle Revis' contract, making the star cornerback a free agent on Tuesday, a source told ESPN.
Darrelle Revis will become a free agent on Tuesday with the Patriots declining his $20 million option for 2015.
The Patriots are expected to continue speaking with Revis' representatives about a contract, while the New York Jets have been planning to make a run at Revis should he hit the open market.
When the Patriots signed Revis on March 17, 2014, the terms of the contract were two years for $32 million, although team president Jonathan Kraft later acknowledged that the 2015 season was a "placeholder."
The "placeholder" was in reference to Revis having a mammoth $25 million salary-cap charge for 2015, which the team was unlikely to absorb and thus leading the sides back to the negotiating table where Revis would either sign an extension or be released to become an unrestricted free agent.
The arrangement worked for both sides, as the Patriots benefited from Revis returning to top form two seasons after tearing his ACL and playing for the under-market rate of $12 million for the 2014 season.
Meanwhile, Revis re-established himself as arguably the game's top cornerback, raising his profile in going from a Tampa Bay team that ended up with the No. 1 pick in the 2015 draft to the Super Bowl champion Patriots.
Revis, who turns 30 on July 14, started every game for the Patriots in 2014 and was a valuable chess piece who often matched up against opponents' top receivers in the team's predominantly man coverage scheme. He finished with 14 passes defended in the regular season, and had two interceptions, although the statistics don't fully reflect his value because the football wasn't often coming his way.

You might find this interesting--Hali actually didn't take that big of a pay cut. He was due to earn about $9 million but will instead get a $1M base salary and a $5M signing bonus. He also pulled a Peyton Manning and can earn back the lost $3M through incentives. And here's the real funny part: they added four(!) phony voidable years to get the max cap savings possible. That'll make his contract look really weird.

Revis-to-the-Jets feels like such a foregone conclusion that I wouldn't be surprised if a darkhorse team comes out of nowhere to sign him.

I so, so hope it is the Raiders.

Stephen A Smith thinks Chip Kelly is racist. I haven't been following, but this seems plausible.

Cutting/trading/not re-signing a handful of black superstars after you extend Riley Cooper certainly doesn't help your case.

But they overpaid the shit out of Maxwell and Brought in Frank Gore. It looks more like he wants guys that buy in to his plan than anything else to me.
That's just a headline grab from Stephen A because they just ditched 3 really good players. It's generally not a good move to have that much talent leave in one offseason at least historically but we'll see, and the Eagles usually have plenty of cap space. I doubt he plans to move the team to Selma or open a new SAE chapter but yeah I don't get Riley Cooper sticking around either.

Yeah I don't think he's racist. To me Cooper staying, Jackson/Maclin being let go and Maxwell being signed all show he has the Pete Carrol Syndrome for big receivers and CBs. Jordan Matthews is that type of player as well.

The 49ers implosion has to be one of the more ridiculous examples of things falling apart simply because one dude no longer felt he had the biggest dick in the room. I am utterly baffled how you take the team they had rolling in 2012-2013 and end up with this. What the fuck.

Smart man. Good team player. LOVE HIM. Either he or his agent are really bright, big picture guys. They help out KC, a place he loves, owes everything to (literally, the Hunts helped move his family here), thinks is a real contender, and wants to end his career in. And KC helps him out. I'm a big fan of this kind of thing when players like Manning and Brady do it. And I'm proud to put Hali in the same category.

It's unbelievable. As a film, I wouldn't buy this premise. Yet somehow here we are. Just unreal.

That would be better than NY/AFC East. If he goes, I hope it's to the NFC.

Looks like Andre Johnson and Frank Gore are heading to Indy for a visit. Will the Colts land both to go right along with their new pass rusher?

I dunno, isn't a big part of it that Colin Kaepernick actually kinda sucks?

So after losing Suh, we at least reassured ourselves with hopes for usage of all the extra cap space.
and we haven't even been mentioned as being linked to anyone of significance.

My mind went to the gutter pretty quickly when Schefter said on live TV, "If [Revis] hits the market, the Jets are going to come hard."
