When isn't Mike awkward? I mean, I love the guy, but he's an odd duck.
Lately he's definitely more comfortable in his own skin. Hence the increase in his jumping and spinning and pointing on stage. I blame that on him overcoming his drug addiction and crippling disease.

Every time my friend's wife bitches about her Crohn's disease, I'm all like, "Mike McCready has it and he's a rich, famous, awesome guitar player, so what's your excuse?!" ... on the inside.

someone posted this at the pit:

http://abcnewsradioonline.com/music-new ... tures.html

Guitarist Kim Thayil says that Soundgarden’s first album in over 15 years, King Animal, includes songs that drummer Matt Cameron had originally written for Pearl Jam.

“[Matt] had some songs which he had demoed that he wanted us to learn,” Thayil tells The Phoenix. “He thought these songs were Soundgarden-like and that they might have been more appropriate for us than Pearl Jam and he wanted to hear us play them.”

Thayil adds that rehearsing Cameron’s tracks in the studio sparked the band’s desire to create King Animal. “We had a blast [in the studio] and we love the songs and other ideas were coming out,” he explains. “[Frontman] Chris [Cornell] had some, I had some, [bassist] Ben [Shepherd] had some and we just started jamming.”

Soundgarden is currently on a North American tour supporting King Animal. Visit SoundgardenWorld.com to view the full itinerary.

After some deliberation:

Black
State Of Love & Trust
Go
Rearviewmirror
Corduroy
Immortality
In My Tree
Off He Goes
In Hiding
Sad

I didn't mean for them all to be pre-2001, but there you go.

Any of the resident ranking-junkies care to compile a top 10 of all the top 10's in this thread?

Problem is i don't think these lists are in order, to rank everything then they would probably need to be ranked 1-10

1. Indifference

Just beautiful. For me, this almost transcends their entire catalogue.

2. Corduroy

It's like a greatest hits of PJ in one song. Tender moments, strength, frailty, great riffs, good old fashioned rock angst, and great lyrics. Class.

3. Present Tense

So haunting, and most importantly - true. It should be cheesy or preachy or something - but it just isn't.

4. Breath

THAT riff. It just kicks.

5. Footsteps

I'm loving simplicity in my old age - this is so simple, and beautiful. "Scars up and down my arm, one for each day since I fell apart". Gets me everytime! Awesome vocal from Eddie too.

6. Black

What can I say that hasn't already been said. I play this live all the time, and never get bored of it.

7. Leash

This song just feels like a rallying call to all outsiders, that you're not on your own. This song is the feeling of leaving your house in the morning with the sun burning your back - and knowing you belong.

8. Elderly Woman

This is in the list simply because when I saw Eddie play it solo in London I was just overwhelmed. I just wanna scream HELLO!!

9. Crown of Thorns

I know its cheating, but PJ20 is what got me into PJ. The version from that album I could listen to all day...

10. Given to Fly

I've kinda gone off this song due to over exposure - but I was so taken with it when I saw the PJ20 trailer I must have listened to it over and over and over, and I haven't done that with a song for years.

Honourable mentions:

Daughter
Porch
Spin the Black Circle
Wash
In My Tree
Nothingman
Immortality
Go
Animal
Light Years

I am a lazy lurker and haven't even posted since the board was reset. I had to recreate my account but this is the kind of thing I just can't resist.

Over Christmas my brother and I were working so hard on firming up a top 5. It's so difficult. 10 is easier than that but had. After much thought...

1. Black
2. Sad
3. Force of Nature
4. I Got I'd
5. Light Years
6. Footsteps
7. Nothingman
8. Release
9. Last Exit
10. In Hiding

It's super cool to see how many different songs are in this thread. As someone said, it speaks to the depth of their catalog.
