I'll never get the Education ending, and I'm sorry about that.

Jesus, that's really long. And putting something after "Parting Ways" is obviously a terrible call.

"Letter to the Dead" is a stupid name for "Sad". Like, in the reality where the song is framed as a literal letter to the dead... it would be a person writing to a dead person about their friend grieving about yet another dead person?

The four-run end to that record is kind of bizarre to me.

Soon Forget
In The Moonlight
Parting Ways
Education

They were clearly going for
side a) fast songs
side b) slow songs

But side b) has about two too many slow songs for it to be perfect.

Have you not done the Binaural Deluxe edition? Ridleybradout kept Gods' Dice in the #2 slot, but it's otherwise as Strat posted. It's superb, a huge improvement on the album. I agree that Education is a shitty closer, but than I generally dislike that song (and Parting Ways, so I press stop after ItM).
I only listened to the alternate versions and outtakes. I didn't pay attention to the actual album or how it was ordered.

Basically, just make In The Moonlight and Education the B-sides they were meant to be and have the final tracklist...

"Breakerfall"
"Insignificance"
"Evacuation"
"Sad"
"Rival"
"Grievance"
"Gods Dice"
"Light Years"
"Of the Girl"
"Thin Air"
"Nothing as It Seems"
"Fatal"
"Sleight of Hand"
"Soon Forget"
"Parting Ways"

How many times has RM retracked Binaural? 3,347 to be exact.

Almost positive this was my very first go at it and I solved the problem so we can all stop now.

Why would you do that to in the moonlight?

Yeah, I get the idea of it, I just think the power of those slow songs gets dulled a bit by stacking them one on top of the other.

Have your read the Chuck Klosterman piece in which he realizes he no longer cares passionately about music? I wish I could remember the band he used as the example, but it's something along the lines of "My co-worker put on a Blink-182 song, and I didn't feel angry, or much of anything. I realized I no longer cared about music enough to "hate" a band and have negative feelings about them."

It's a great read, I wish I could remember where I saw it.
I have!

I can't quite claim that level of detachment yet -- I feel like in general I'm a lot more even-tempered in regards to my dislikes, but with all those arena-folk bands yelling "HEY!" every time you turn your fucking head, what's a poor boy to do?
