Perhaps I shouldn't be fooled by my enjoyment of GOTG 2

Oh okay. I can never tell if Peeps's crazy comic book ramblings are ever actually relevant to the movie or not

And for all its ridiculousness, GOTG2 is a much better movie than this. At least it's about something.

"Fun" scares me in relation to a Marvel movie

This wasn't rich in terms of character development (other than really leaning into a new representation of the character). But quite a bit happens. There seem to be a lot more permanent stakes to this movie than many other MCU movies

Humor level of this movie
"Let's do (thing)"
"I'm not going to do (thing)"
"Oh come on, let's do (thing)"
"I am absolutely not doing (thing)"
cut to them doing (thing)
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

Stuff happening (plot) has nothing to do with being
about something (themes)

in the grand scheme no. but it touches on them as i think most of the marvel movies do (except antman and gotg2) thought GOTG2 explains how and why peter can handle the stones
and i profusely apologize if my knowledge of the source material somehow interferes or cause you to think im rambling while you see a movie about aliens flying around the spaceways, a man engineered to be the perfect human specimen, a man who prays to a panter god and drinks local tea and herbs to gain the powers of a cat and how another man turns into one big cancer cell of rage and anger

Fair enough. Themes were there, but they were clearly paying second fiddle to other priorities.

I wouldn't want every marvel movie to be like this (and for my money the Russo brothers thus far strike the best balance of humor, action, and thematic weight), but 17 movies in there is definitely a space (a necessary space, probably) for diversions like this
