Goddamn, I love that finale so fucking much. Really the final three hours of Twin Peaks make the slog through the middle well worth it.

I've said it before, but I look at Twin Peaks as three different seasons. There's S1. Then there's the first 10 episodes of S2 which feels like it's own thing. Then There's the rest of it. The first two parts are completely outstanding. The "Third Season" is wonky and hit/miss but culminates in one of the most riveting and powerful finales in TV history.

My wife still hasn't seen Fire Walk With Me. And I haven't watched it in about a decade, though I've seen it half a dozen times over the years. But we're going to attend a 35mm screening of it tomorrow afternoon. I can't WAIT to see her reaction to the movie. I'm dying to know what she thinks of it.

It's been a loooong time since I have been so excited about a TV show.

And I'm completely jealous of the FWWM screening that you're going to. I would love to see and hear the movie in a theater. The soundtrack is fantastic.

I could discuss the Bowie scenes all day.

Just out curiosity, did the sound seem louder than for a normal movie? I've read (and it could have been on here, so I hope I'm not repeating things) that during the original theatrical run, Lynch specifically asked that the movie be turned up 2 db louder than normal.

We're up to Ep 14 of the second season. I don't think Mrs Wease is gonna stick with it. I'm getting to where I'm ready for it to end. It's not that it's bad, it's just going so slow. I'm used to the oddball story quirks by now, I just want it to speed up.

Duchovney has been fun, tho. Is he in the new season?

Yup. There's a picture of him in the Twin Peaks issue of Entertainment Weekly from a few weeks back.

The overall volume was extremely loud for the movie. The dialogue was normal, though. So my wife had a really difficult time with many of the scenes because she couldn't hear what people were saying. The best example of what I'm talking about was this scene:

The sound of the Leland's engine revving and all the cars honking and Laura screaming completely drowned out what Mike was saying. I had to fill my wife in on the exchange a bit. It's way easier to understand him on the DVD that I have.

But, yes, in general, the film was exceptionally loud. Except dialogue.

You're in the worst part of it now. It starts to pick up a tad more steam around episode 21. And then 25/6 through the end is really strong to great.

25/6??? Netflix only has up to 22 episodes. Do they not have all the episodes up?

I love David Lynch but the main thing that keeps me from watching this show is the fact that everybody talks about long stretches of episodes (even an entire season) being bad. I don't know that I want to invest so much time in something if several hours of it are crappy. I feel the same way about the X-Files.

There's a few posts in the X-Files thread where I tried to cut down each season to 10-12 episodes, getting rid of the worst MOTW episodes and the extraneous mythology episodes; I'll try to find it. I don't know Twin Peaks well enough to try and do the same, and I'm not sure it would work.

Here's the post where I worked through the first four seasons, at least: http://forums.theskyiscrape.com/viewtop ... 99#p667499

I thought you were talking about overall episode number. Not S2 episode number. If you're at ep 14 OF S2, then the worst is behind you.

It's only 2 seasons. There is no entire season that is bad. S1 is only 8 episodes. And all of those are amazing. Episodes 1-10 of S2 are amazing. All of that (S1 + 1-10 of S2) is some the best TV you'll ever see. S2 is 22 episodes long. The first 10 and the last 5 are outstanding. That means there are only 7 episodes of Twin Peaks that are questionable. I don't think they're as bad as others seem to think they are. But they are a little odd and wonky. Every episode has it's moments though. Don't let a run of 7 episodes detour you from an overall worthwhile and amazing artistic experience. It's one of the greatest TV shows of all time. And so much of the modern TV landscape is owed to Twin Peaks.

You're so close. Just get to those last three/four episodes. The show ends SO strongly. It's worth it.
