Day trading coins is a thing now? How does one factor in the long transaction times?

The exchanges are instant. I guess they do the transactions later?

You have to transfer your currency to the exchange to use them. Which creates a problem for the user: either you can lose lots of time waiting on your money to transfer to the exchange so you can sell it, or you keep your money on the exchange and risk the exchange getting hacked or disappearing.
