Hi everyone. Here comes a possibly idiotic theory about the lyrics...

If this song is, in fact, about Chris Cornell, is it possible that it is being sung from two alternating perspectives? The first representing Cornell who is singing about missing his wife (him passing took her away too soon?) and the second being Ed who is singing about his regret and anger at the loss of his friend?

I came to this theory because from the beginning "SWBM took her away too soon" the "la la las" and even the start to the "she was a stunner and I was stunned" parts all sound like maybe they are meant to sound a little like someone who is singing "in the distance" as opposed to other other verses which are very in your face and also immediately reference said distance.

The other thing that lead me here other than the lyrics is that they also alternate in that way... Chris, Ed, Chris, Ed, and so on.

A ghost duet? Could it be? No I bet it can't be but it is a cool thought, and it is why I like these types of lyrics they will never be nailed down.

you know, strat, I could easily accuse you of the same thing, but I don't. I respect your opinion.

Would be pretty clever if Ed wrote it that way knowing that Chris would be missing his wife and family the most which is why he is singing about her and his struggle with lyrics like "Yeah, I was feelin' fortunate to be locked up
But the world kept on spinnin' Always felt like it was endin'," and Ed coming at it from a perspective of just missing his friend and not being able to do anything about it.

Let's ask Ed. He owes us answers.

Not to go overboard defending tree_ here but it’s perfectly legitimate to talk through how bad this song is with other like-minded (or not) fans, even repetitively and at length.

It’s OK to have a wide and varied spectrum of views.

There isn't much subject matter with which I'd consider myself to be expertly familiar. I know more about PJ than many other things, which is why I linger.

Of course its okay to talk about how bad the song is. HE ADDS NOTHING.

He doesnt say anything. His last comment was "you guys are just trying to convince yourself to love the band"

Tree is a troll. This is what he does. In every forum.

By all means, discuss why you dont like the song. None of us here have a problem. Tree has a consistent pattern of just being a dick and adding nothing to the conversation. This is his reputation and he's earned it.

I would agree, except that he seems to be supplying a negative retort to a bunch of Strat's positive posts; that's not just offering views in a vacuum, it's raining on specific people's parade, repeatedly

tree -

I know you're disappointed

I've been there

I've lived there

hell I practically built parts of that village

but I will say that this thread has become really hard to keep up with because of all the new posters, and your adding another 4-5 posts per page of the same glum repeat comments is feeling spammy at this point

you don't have to be stepford wives positive about the band - i hate that about the pit

but there is a practical element where volume is an issue

there is a lot of volume

not a lot of interesting

and it disrupts other people who have more interesting things they want to talk about

just go burn down another thread

there's plenty of them

Why is it that I add nothing as opposed to another person holding a view with which you agree?
