This was a pretty fun video.
... and here's their review of the new one.

I don't get why so many are down on this being "gloomy" or "humorless." I actually prefer my comic book movies be of the darker variety. I mean I dig a lot of the Marvel affairs but I found Age of Ultron a bit too zinger-friendly, which I grew tired of quickly. I'm hoping Civil War picks up and takes after Winter Soldier instead of the former. I'm kind of pumped to see Ben's Batman, too. Been saying since the beginning that he could pull this off, hopefully better than Bale who I actually found a tad overrated (although Dark Knight is still one hell of a movie).

It's an utter mess but I enjoyed myself tremendously. It's riddled with character and plot problems as well as a very Marvel-y over-eagerness to sow the seeds of a "shared universe", to the detriment of the actual story being told. But it's also spectacular to look at and to experience. There's so much power in Snyder's baroque visual stylings that it really does override a lot of the film's problems, and feels like a very welcome change from Marvel's rather boxy, bland, insipid presentation. The cast was really great. Batfleck and Eisenberg both won me over completely. There's a lot to process and I feel like I have to let it sit with me for a bit. I'm watching it again on Thursday (the tickets I'd already bought before getting into this advance screening) and I'll probably have a more fully formed opinion then. But I had a great time.

Good to hear Plat - reading the other reviews I was worried I was in for a bad time

The reviews are way worse than I was expecting (roughly the same as MoS)...but at least there's Regal Tuesdays so I don't have to pay full price.

I've read a lot of the reviews. The pretty common takeways are
1. Ben Affleck is a good batman
2. The plot is nonsensical
3. Most people don't like Eisenberg, but those who do really dig it
4. Zach Snyder doesn't like the Superman character
5. The plot is utterly nonsensical and so the baroque posturing and mythic storytelling falls flat
6. The posturing and mythic storytelling looks very cool
7. Wonder Woman looks good but hardly steals the show as was rumored
Conclusion is that Snyder's style remains visually compelling and he is utterly unable to tell a story if he is not slavishly adapting source material.

I haven't seen this yet, so none of that reflects my personal opinions

There is definitely an undercurrent of super hero fatigue in a lot of these reviews, and some people kinda smarmily calling this the beginning of the end.
It will be interesting to see how this movie impacts the public perception of Civil War, since comparisons are inevitable.

A lot of the reviews have an undercurrent of going into the movie thinking it will suck and being disappointed the movie didn't do enough to change their minds.

Stip, as usual I think you're way too concerned with reviews but I do wonder how the crummy critical reception will affect its box office take. Conventional wisdom tells us there's no way this doesn't make a massive amount of money, but the less-than-stellar professional reviews + the fact that it's decidedly NOT kid-friendly (a six-year-old couldn't follow this jumbled plot) might limit its reach.

It's something to read and talk about until I see the movie (though at this point itll probably not be until it's on video. This doesn't strike me as worth paying a babysitter for, especially since my wife has no desire to see it). This was a movie that also aspired to do more than make Transformers level money with a transformers level product, so the fact that it got the reception it has thus far might impact the other movies in the slate going forward.
I don't know how much it'll limit the box office (not at all the first week, possibly it'll impact its legs, but it has a clear calendar in front of it). But this is a movie that aimed to say big things, and seems to have been unsuccessful. The DCCU still doesn't have its identity, and I think the critical reception will impact how the powers that be see Snyder as their world builder and anchor.

If you care at all about visuals it's absolutely worth seeing in the largest screen possible.

There's a lot of that, for sure (or bringing in baggage about the genre). But some of that is also on the marketing. If they had done a better job convincing people this was going to be amazing they would have gone in expecting to enjoy the movie and a lot more likely to ignore the little things that will scratch at you if you were coming in skeptical.

Supposedly the presale tickets sales are higher than Star Wars which surprised me. I could just be that more people like buying tickets online but I would expect the opening weekend to be huge. Word of mouth will dictate its long term money making potential. Seeing as I don't share in the profits I don't care how much money it makes.
