That's all we know that was recorded, I'm sure there were more. And yes it obviously would have been different. I guess if the band had not taken another two years to finish the album and had booked another session quite close to the first session then we would have had a different looking album to the one we have.

And more importantly to me no LB, LTRP, FD or even MYM.
Based on not knowing how the songs actually sound (ie nothing) it looks like right after backspacer they really wanted to do something different but for whatever reason everything got delayed and when they started it back up again they didn't have the desire to make it as different. OR Eddie wasn't on the 'different' train, all his songs are in the second batch after all. OR the remaining songs aren't as weird and wonderful as we've been hearing. And they fit with the others perfectly (please no)
To be honest I'm just glad they're pushing a little in that direction. One hopes that if they are ever feeling BO'B is sabotaging their attempts that strongly, they'll move on.
We haven't heard 4 tracks yet from the first session but Bo'B thought they were on a roll and wanted to push that thing out. Maybe just maybe, the hate Bo'B generates is not warranted. Maybe Ed or the whole band is.

And Dugg, I really like BS and find most of ST quite awesome but I find most of these LB tracks to be lacking or just not to my taste (Sirens, Getaway and S Whole excluded).

Me too. My disappointment of not having any hard songs on the album could hinge on whether MFS is good or not. Right now, for as much I like some of the songs, to wait 4 years and get no hard rocking tunes sucks.

If they had at least one awesome hard opener and then maybe Of The Earth, it would have been 14 tracks, and would have been awesome. It's all just mid tempo and it's annoying.

I hope MFS rocks. Nobody can seem to be able to describe it, which could be a good thing or a bad thing.

Put me somewhere in that camp too. I wouldn't say I don't like it. I ADORE the mood it sets, the great production, the intent (that truly does come across), and the technical and creative chops it took to come up with the tunes. But few of these songs actually get me as high or as low as anything anything else this band has released.
I don't think it's a highs and lows record, it's more of a tempered mood than that, but it's a stunningly crafted thing to listen to.

Binaural is mostly mid-tempo too...

To me, it's just a trudge through a swamp with no real pay off. LBC, I am Mine, You Are and All or None are good songs (none of 'em great), Can't Keep & Save You work when I'm in the right mood. The rest is dull.

I don't get that from any of these new tracks (though early days, I guess).

I have Swallowed Whole Following Sirens on my playlist and really like it better in that spot than Bolt, but maybe Infallable needed Bolt.

Different strokes I guess. I like a good trudge through a swamp and I'm glad we have a few on the PJ catalogue.

Binaural is my favorite album, and it has 4 rockers in Breakerfall, Grievance, Insignificance and God's Dice. Evacuation rocks in it's own way too. And when I include the b sides like Sad, Education and In The Moonlight, I rock the fuck out. It's good even without b-sides, and it rocks enough.

LB has but one punk song, and a mid tempo fun opener. From the descriptions, I'm hoping MFS rocks in a weird tempo Evacuation type way.

So, I like the damn song "Sirens"...so sue me..ha. I'm ok with where they're at in life, I would have hated it at age 15, but I'm older now. I can see the people around me are getting older and they don't have much time on this Earth. I get where they're coming from. Love is precious and fleeting thing.

I can understand if you don't like, that's cool for me. We all have are reasons for liking/not liking a song. Mine are personal for both.

One thing is, this surprised me. I think that's what art is supposed to do. Good or bad.

I get the "I want some hard rock" stance (I enjoy me some hard rock), but I don't subscribe to it. If they put out an album of eclectic, well-written, engaging slow-jam acoustic songs, that's far better than continuing to chug out a sub-par hard rock quota just to give the album a few fast-paced songs.

It sounds really nice but the climax happens in the first track and even that track doesn't climax. Musically it is pretty well crafted but Ed really mails it in. His approach isn't moody or restrained it is just boring.

I don't hate it by any means but it is below average.

Yes. I playlisted these in order (so Sirens > LB) but today heard Sirens into SW. Much better transition to these ears and one I may be keeping.

It sounds a little to me like they had to throw off the obligatory fast-paced songs to get some new ideas...

Yeah, Sirens into LB is a lot of drama back-to-back. Just drop Lukin between the two and you're good to go.

It's moody, restrained, bored, all of those things... deliberately. It's a stoner rock record, not a climax record. The mood is perfect, since it was written off the back of Roskilde.

Anyway, I've talked about this a million times.

I wonder if anyone who loves Riot Act actually likes this new stuff or I'm on my own.
