Does that count?

New folk I haven't. I'm fairly allergic to kids even though they're great

Oh look.

Is vortex a verb?

Sex means other people and other people is a no.
So if you're not having sex with other people what are you having sex with?

Soft fruits and strategically placed cushions?

You've given a lot away there and for free.

Bit more focus next time.

Very well said. Sirens had a more profound impact on me than any art ever has. More profound than anything non living ever has. More profound than anything non human.
this is a joke right?
No not a joke.
Of all the art you have experienced in your lifetime this has had the most profound impact?

You haven't denied anything here. I think you're giving away more.

someone (probably harmless on the basis of probability if nothing else) said that lightning bolt is making backspacer irrelevant.

I love backspacer more than most, but there are definitely a few songs on here that seem like they are superior second attempts. I wonder when the new album dust settles if backspacer starts to feel inferior.

Maybe Backspacer will be shown to be one of those transitional records in a bands history. Not great, but necessary to make a better following album and set a new tone for the future.

It's a fragile thing this life we lead
If I think too much, I can get over -
whelmed by the grace by which we live our lives
With death over our shoulders

What a band this is.

perhaps. Still nothing quite like GSMF or Force of Nature, which are my two favorites.

Don't get GSMF, seems very ordinary. I do like the relaxed rolling vibe of FON.

you can't get it unless you pre-ordered the album though
ah well, guess it will come up around the traps soon enough
Vindicator wrote:I hope that the live version of Sirens becomes an epic thing where Mike extends that middle solo to like a minute. Would be awesome.
me too, but I'm guessing it won't. I think i remember Mike saying he wrote the solo for sirens rather than his usual 'improvisation in the right key and record the first or second take' approach. Usually when he does this for tracks he plays the solos exactly the same in live shows rather than extending or improvising. Examples of this are Daughter and Amongst the Waves

Hopefully I'm wrong though, and him wanting it to be a Pink Floyd type thing gives him the urge to smash out a nice long PF type solo :)

Mmm not sure. I think alot of people thought Yield was a better attempt at some No Code stuff, the band basically said this (atleast that's how I interpreted it at the time). But I think No Code has it's own identify. But we'll see.....

I do completely get the Black comparisons to Sirens. We all have tons of musical knowledge and critical ability at this point, Black came out when most of us were quite young. Struturally I see a huge connection, it's a super cheesy nakedly sincere premise of a song that should in no way work, but Ed pulls it through in a way that only he can. Fuck Mike, he's a average to below average musician as nice and down to earth and cool of a human being he is. But it's Ed, it's all Ed.

I'll get back to this point later because it was me that said LB is giving me no reason to listen to Backspacer.

Basically Lightning Bolt is the record Backspacer wanted to be.
The main difference I find so far is LB feels more genuine and confident. While I think BS had some great lyrics I always felt they were written because Ed thought they were good ideas as opposed to writing them because he was compelled to.

Backspacer feels like a rough draft to LB more so than any other back to back album . Usually they are reactionary , this transition feels more progressive.
